Suddenly having a problem editing the metadata for a single tv series.

Hi Folks,

wondering if someone has any idea why this is happening or how to fix it... very strange behavior that I have not encountered before (I just upgraded my server to 4.10.2.0 a couple days ago btw). Also, I'm not a rank amateur... have been running Emby for quite a few years and I make metadata edits all the time without issue...

I have hundreds of tv series, but right now I've discovered just one (Dexter: Resurrection) that has changed on me and will not allow me to make changes to it's "base/root" series metadata.

I had this show's first season for awhile now and I had previously edited this show's root metadata (added/changed genres and people entry items). Also the series wasn't "locked to prevent future changes". When this week's new season 2 started and I got the first episode, I added it to the media folder and as usual after a minute or two it popped up in the latest TV section.

I opened up that newly added s02e01 episode metadata, made some adjustments, saved... all good (it saved the changes and kept them). I then opened the "root" metadata (the base metadata for the show below the seasonal metadata) and all the metadata had changed (my edits) were gone and season 2 actors names appeared (so this happened as a result of adding the new s02e01 episode). Ok... didn't have the metadata locked, so my bad... so i proceeded to make my changes to it and then clicked save. I get the little pop-up that said "saved", then then i click on another series, then come back to Dexter: Resurrection and none of my edits saved, it's back to what it was before. I edited again (in Metadata Manager even), simply removed a single genre name, clicked "lock to prevent future changes" and then clicked save. Again pop-up says "saved", but go away, come back to it... saves did not happen... original data is there?!?! Even if I make no changes and just click "lock to prevent future changes" and then click on save, if I open it up to edit again that "locked" button is not enabled.

So for some reason, this series will not allow me to make changes to the root series metadata... I can go to the seasonal episode entries and make changes, save... and they save just fine, just not the root. I've gone to 10 other random tv series i have and made edits to the root metadata, they all save just fine (I have hundreds of series, so haven't totally confirmed 100% there isn't another one behaving this way). It appears to ONLY be Dexter: Resurrection for some reason. I also tried moving the media files out of the library folder, performing a libary scan and vacuum to purge the series from Emby. Then moved the series back to the library folder, so Emby adds the whole series back in new. It did that and all episode metadata has reverted to brand new info (pulled down from metadata site). I try editing the root metadata, same result... it won't save my changes. If i edit the episodes... it does save my changes.

It almost feels like there is a READ ONLY setting on the root metadata not allowing it to be changed.

I had thought maybe something with the 4.10.2.0 upgrade I did a couple days ago... but then I would have thought i'd get the same behavior with other tv series root metadata, but I am not. This is the first tv series that has premiered a new episode for a brand new season since i did the s/w upgrade, but i still don't think it's related.

Anyone have any ideas what is going on here?

Ok... might be onto something here... it may be related to the 4.10.2.0 upgrade after all... and specific to adding a new season of a tv series.

Just to test that out... I picked another tv series (Dark Matter) which has two seasons. I confirmed that I could edit the metadata of the root series and it did infact save my changes. I then, removed the season 2 folder from the media library so that only season 1 remained. Performed a library scan and vacuum. Moved the season 2 folder back into the series folder and waited a few minutes for Emby to scan and add Season 2 back in. It did and now Dark Matter is exhibiting the exact same behavior as Dexter: Resurrection... if I edit the root series metadata, it says it saved it... but it doesn't. If I edit the season 2 episode metadata, it does save it.

So it is looking like since the 4.10.2.0 upgrade, when a NEW season is added to a series... the root of the series metadata become uneditable...

Can anyone else confirm this behavior?

Hi, when you edit the root series how?

Either clicking edit metadata from the ellipses on the main thumbnail display or from metadata manager... same result either way.

Also, seems to be more than I thought... it appears to be if I edit the ROOT series metadata, make a change, save it. Come back to it... it appears to have done it, if I go and edit it again and save... it now will revert to external metadata site's data and not let me change it again.

Edited to add screenshot...

Here, I stopped my Emby Server service and restarted so I have a clean log file. Once the service started, I went to the Dexter: Resurrection show icon, clicked the ellipsis and selected edit metadata. I deleted the show's overview text and selected to lock series from future changes and then clicked save. Edited the metadata again, everything was unchanged and no lock enabled. That's all I did then grabbed the logfile and attached here.
