Home Screen Companion 4.3.0.0 – AI "Refresh every" setting always resets to 0 after saving

Hello,

I'm experiencing an issue with the Home Screen Companion plugin when using AI-generated recommendation lists.

My setup:

  • Emby Server: 4.10.1.0

  • Home Screen Companion: 4.3.0.0

  • Platform: Synology NAS (installed via SPK package)

  • AI Provider: OpenAI (ChatGPT)

  • Number of users: 4

The problem:

I have configured four separate AI recommendation groups, one for each Emby user. Each group generates personalized movie and TV show recommendations based on the user's watch history.

Everything works correctly when generating the recommendations. The AI returns results, matches titles against my local library, and updates the home screen sections.

However, I cannot save the "Refresh every" setting.

I want the AI recommendations to refresh every 2–3 days instead of on every full sync.

When I change the value from 0 to 3 and click Save Settings, I receive the confirmation that the settings were saved successfully.

But when I leave the page and return, the value has reverted to 0.

What I have tested:

  • Tried setting the value to 2 and 3 days.

  • Clicked Save Settings and received the success confirmation.

  • Reloaded the page and reopened the groups.

  • The value always returns to 0.

  • The same issue occurs with all four AI recommendation groups.

  • AI generation and library matching otherwise work correctly.

Expected behavior:

The "Refresh every" setting should retain the saved value of 3 days and prevent automatic AI regeneration until the configured interval has passed.

Actual behavior:

The setting always returns to 0, which according to the interface means "run on every full sync".

My questions:

  • Is this a known issue in Home Screen Companion 4.3.0.0?

  • Is there a workaround to make the refresh interval persist?

  • Could the value be saved correctly internally but displayed incorrectly as 0?

  • Does setting it to 0 cause OpenAI API requests on every full sync?

I would like to avoid unnecessary OpenAI API usage and costs.

Thank you for your help!

I would ask in the dedicated thread 🤷‍♂️

Hi!

I only just noticed your report. Like Neminen said, please post in the dedicated thread next time. I'm not really active elsewhere on the forum.

This bug is fixed in the beta releases (4.4.x.x). I plan to release it as stable in a week or so if nothing unexpected comes up.

The problem is in how the settings page loads. The interval you enter is actually saved, but a bug when loading the page shows it as 0. When you then hit Save (for any change, in any group), that 0 is saved and overwrites the value you entered.

There was also a second bug: every save reset the AI's last-run date. So even when the interval was kept, the countdown started over and the AI was asked again on the next sync for all your AI groups.

After updating, please enter the intervals again once and save, since the old values have most likely been overwritten with 0 already.

I'd recommend going for the beta if this is important to you.
