r32nj 3 Posted October 10 Posted October 10 I am in the process of a new family room home theater setup. I have previously been using a Roku Ultra with Emby, connecting to Emby server on my NAS, to play 1080P ripped movies. Now I want to move up to 4K with my new TV (Hisense 65U7SG) along with a Nakamichi Dragon home theater system. So I purchased a Nvidia Shield Pro as I always remembered that was considered the best option for Emby. My Roku Ultra has been picky with 4K video files and the Nvidia seems to play files that the Roku Ultra would not. So, I am wondering how using Kodi + Emby improves or changes the experience of using Emby alone. I would appreciate any thoughts or directing me to other threads that might help with this.
Luke 43383 Posted October 10 Posted October 10 Hi, usually the people who want to integrate Kodi with Emby have prior Kodi experience. It will allow you to tinker configure it's user interface to your heart's content. But it comes with a learning curve, a more complicated setup process, and more ongoing maintenance. If you want the simplicity of installing an app from the store and connecting to your server right away, it's probably not the best choice.
r32nj 3 Posted October 10 Author Posted October 10 Thanks for that concise reply. I have been happy with the Emby app interface for years now so I'm not necessarily looking for a change there. Some of what I read about Kodi seemed to indicate sometimes better compatibility with certain 4K video files or lossless audio tracks. Since switching from the Roku Ultra to the Nvidia Shield Pro those issues I was having have been resolved so far. 1
