Add to backup file set?

WHile you can easily backup a file by placing it in the programdata/plugins/configurations directory.  

Is there any API to register files to be backed up that reside elsewhere? For me its my sqlite  db that I place in programdata/data

It would be great if there was a backup service, where a plugin could add paths to the files that need to be backuped in full as well as incremental backups.
