rusty4nail 1 Posted Friday at 12:34 PM Posted Friday at 12:34 PM Hi all, I'd like to report a subtitle rendering inconsistency in the new universal Android app that doesn't happen in the legacy (semi-supported) Emby for Android TV app. The issue: when playing a video whose aspect ratio forces black bars (letterboxing/pillarboxing), the SRT subtitle size at the "Normal" setting renders noticeably smaller than expected. If I switch the setting to "Large" to compensate, subtitles look correct for that video, but then become uncomfortably oversized as soon as I open a different file with no black bars (standard fill-frame aspect ratio). In other words, subtitle size seems to scale relative to the visible video canvas rather than staying consistent relative to the actual display/frame, so the same "Normal" or "Large" setting produces very different visual results depending on the source video's aspect ratio. This does not happen at all in the old Emby for Android TV app: subtitle size stays visually consistent at "Normal" regardless of the video's aspect ratio or whether black bars are present. It's also not something I've seen in any other decent player. I want to stress that there is no transcoding involved in any of these tests (direct play only), so this points to a client-side subtitle scaling bug rather than anything server-side. I'm attaching screenshots comparing both apps on the same content to illustrate the difference. Together with some minor stutter I've noticed navigating menus in the new app, this subtitle scaling inconsistency is honestly the only thing still holding me back from fully switching over to the new universal app. I'd really appreciate it if the team could look into this and get it fixed. Thanks in advance!
