Couple things I have noticed, that I think would be helpful (mostly on the restore side)

  • Along with Restore Server ID - The ability to change the name of the restored server.
    • I use the backup and restore for creating a debug server.  So I like to change the name.  It would be great if I could change it at the restore screen
  • Which backup to restore is a bit confusing.  I save 5 backups, but which is the latest?  Yes the dated backups are clear, but its not clear from the restore screen.  Is the full backup the same as the last listed backup (by date)?  Or is it the base full and the others are incremental?
    • As stated I have the extra copies set to 5, and the task runs at 12:10 am every day.
    • I have a couple of suggestions here.
      • Put the date on the "backup-full"
      • If the backup full is the same as last nights backup, why have both?
        • If they are not the same, what is the difference?
      • Order the backups from newest to oldest.  Rather than "full" then oldest to newest"
      • Add the size of the backup to the list, just for reference, if someone was storing a bunch they may like to know easily how much data they are using

I guess this is how increment backups work.

1 full and the additions for X days.

But for Emby this is

1 first backup = full

then as time goes by 1 pr day.

I your case this is Full since first backup = full.

Then 5 days back.

If I hade my say then it should be.

1 full backup every week, kept for 4 weeks.

And 6 days of increment for the days in between.

But that just me 😁

This is a common question. Maybe we should just remove the ability to keep extra copies of the database files.

Im not asking for a full backup system :) But it is NOT clear if the "dated backups" are incremental or not.

I disagree.  I think the "extra" copies is a good thing.  However, its not clear if they are on the page that the dated are incremental.

Based on them being incremental, I just looked at the physical backups on my system.

I would simply do the following:
Have the drop down show the following:

Emby Server Backup Full - 2026-10-04 00:10:00
Emby Server Backup Incremental - 2026-10-09 00:10:00
Emby Server Backup Incremental - 2026-10-08 00:10:00
Emby Server Backup Incremental - 2026-10-07 00:10:00
Emby Server Backup Incremental - 2026-10-06 00:10:00
Emby Server Backup Incremental - 2026-10-05 00:10:00

Also, as another option on the restore, have a checkbox "restore last full backup first"

If checked, the full will be restored then the incremental selected.

The functionality is great, but I think its a bit confusing but could be made easier :)

Also the question "number of extra copies of databases" is not clear.  I would call it "Number of incremental backups to maintain:"

Honestly when I read "copies of databases" I dont think "oh that is only the sql databases, but doesnt include anything else". Initially I thought it was how many "copies of the backup to make"

TIA
