djmbrfc 0 Posted yesterday at 06:01 PM Posted yesterday at 06:01 PM Hi, I am new to emby so not an expert and I would appreciate a bit of help with this issue I have..... There are 2 apps on the firestick for emby the "Emby for Fire TV" and "Emby" "Emby" refuses to play DTS audio. "Emby for Fire TV" plays DTS perfectly. How do I fix the "Emby" app to play DTS? I am using the Firestick 4K 2025 edition Thanks in advance.
djmbrfc 0 Posted yesterday at 07:03 PM Author Posted yesterday at 07:03 PM Thanks for the response.. Yes I think so ...... Looks a bit too involved for me so I will stick with the "Emby for Fire TV" Will try "Emby" now and again in the hope it gets fixed!
djmbrfc 0 Posted yesterday at 07:29 PM Author Posted yesterday at 07:29 PM Hi, "Emby" refuses to play DTS audio but plays the movie OK "Emby for Fire TV" plays DTS perfectly, it also didn't play DTS at first but I found it has the option to prevent DTS-HD passthrough. When I unchecked this all played great. While "Emby" does no have this passthrough option available.
Luke 43063 Posted yesterday at 07:42 PM Posted yesterday at 07:42 PM Hi there, what exactly do you mean by refuses? Are you saying it tells you that it won't play the track?
djmbrfc 0 Posted yesterday at 07:49 PM Author Posted yesterday at 07:49 PM It directly plays the video OK and stats for nerds states the audio is being directly played but no sound coming out of the speakers.
Luke 43063 Posted yesterday at 07:54 PM Posted yesterday at 07:54 PM As the Emby TV app actually playing the DTS or is it down mixing it?
djmbrfc 0 Posted yesterday at 08:01 PM Author Posted yesterday at 08:01 PM (edited) It's being directly played no transcoding or down mixing. The movie and sound also plays OK when using the Samsung TV app but it transcodes the audio automatically, Edited yesterday at 08:12 PM by djmbrfc
djmbrfc 0 Posted yesterday at 08:24 PM Author Posted yesterday at 08:24 PM Force Audio Transcoding in Emby: Open the Emby app on your Fire Stick, go to Settings > Playback, and look for audio output options. Ensure that DTS-HD/TrueHD options are unchecked or set your audio output to a format your TV/Receiver natively supports (like Dolby Digital). This forces the Emby server to convert the DTS-HD track into a compatible format (like AAC or Dolby Digital) on the fly. You can do the above on the "Emby" app but not on the "Emby for Fire TV app.

I think the TV app is most likely remuxing to DD (AC3) since you de-selected the passthru. The problem is that some systems that support DTS can accept a DTS-HD stream and just extract the core from it and work fine. The Fire Stick, however, may not be able to do that. You could also look in the settings for the Stick itself and see if there is an advanced audio option that will allow you to select/deselect exactly which formats to support.
djmbrfc 0 Posted 23 hours ago Author Posted 23 hours ago Just loaded VLC on the firestick and the video and DTS audio play OK. So at the moment I am experimenting using the "Emby" app to browse my media then using VLC as an external player to play it.

djmbrfc 0 Posted 12 hours ago Author Posted 12 hours ago (edited) Yes but none make any difference, Not a problem with the fire stick. The fault must be with "Emby" as "Emby for Fire TV" works ok. "Emby" sees the DTS audio and does nothing. "Emby for Fire TV" sees the DTS audio and automatically converts to a suitable format. Edited 12 hours ago by djmbrfc

djmbrfc 0 Posted 3 hours ago Author Posted 3 hours ago (edited) You cannot turn off DTS-HD It's the "Emby" app that's the problem! VLC woks, Plex works and "Emby for Fire TV" works. Edited 3 hours ago by djmbrfc
djmbrfc 0 Posted 1 hour ago Author Posted 1 hour ago Also Emby Samsung TV app works and Emby for Windows works

ebr 16690 Posted 52 minutes ago Posted 52 minutes ago Here's what it looks like on the Shield but the Fire may not have this level of control:
djmbrfc 0 Posted 34 minutes ago Author Posted 34 minutes ago Looks nothing like that .... I am not altering the firestick setting as ever other app works fine including "Emby for Fire TV" so the problem is with the other "Emby" app. So I will continue to use "Emby for Fire TV" or Plex or VLC when watching movies with a DTS audio track when using my Fire Stick. Thanks for your efforts anyway.
