phunzie 43 Posted June 15 Posted June 15 I've created a separate library (mixed content) in Emby for Kids Movies, but what's the best way to separate this library in Kodi?
Solution phunzie 43 Posted June 16 Author Solution Posted June 16 Nevermind. I realized this is really a Kodi question and I've figured it out. 1
quickmic 1741 Posted June 16 Posted June 16 (edited) Using the nodes from the next-gen plugin and customize the skin. Edited June 16 by quickmic 1
phunzie 43 Posted June 16 Author Posted June 16 (edited) I'm still playing around with it, but I basically tagged the folder with kid's media as a "Favorite" and then created a new category in my Rapier skin linked to the favorite. I have also played around with using nodes and Smart Playlists to essentially do something similar. Couple of questions, the kids media I'm trying to import is mostly all movies, except for a single TV show with a few eps. When I tag the main folder with the media as "Favorite" I am able to create a library that has a mix of the movies and the TV show. In Icon view, each movie shows with it's own Cover icon and the TV show displays as a single Cover icon, with the eps listed in a subfolder of it. Pretty much what I would like, although I would prefer Wall view, which is not an option. But when I tried Smart Playlists, if I chose Mixed type content, the playlist showed 0 content. When I choose Movies type, I can then choose Wall view, but although each movie shows properly with it's own Cover, all the TV eps are mixed in displayed as each with it's own individual Cover. Not how I'd like. What are the benefits or reasons to use either Favorite or Smart Playlist? Is there a better way to get the media to display as I would like, Wall view with each movie as it's own Cover and the TV show displayed as a Cover, with the eps listed in a subfolder of it? quickmic 1741 Posted June 17 Posted June 17 (edited) I would neither use Favorites or Smart playlists. I would simply use the Movie and TVShow nodes from plugin for your mixed content and embed those into the skin. btw, I don't recommend using mixed content type libraries on your server. It's harder for the server to decide if it's a show or a movie. Also Kodi doesn't support mixed content and the plugin separates the content anyway. -> I have one mixed content library, comedy (movies) and comedy (tvshows). That's the nodes I would use. phunzie 43 Posted June 17 Author Posted June 17 (edited) Yeah, I have similar nodes for the mixed content kid's movie folder, Kids (movies) + Kids (tvshows). But maybe it's my skin's limitation, but I don't see a way to link my new category to these nodes. For a new category I only have the options to link to "Favorite" or "Preset", and in all the ways to use a Preset I can't find a way to link directly to a Synced Node. Only workaround is to tag the node as a Favorite. Edited June 17 by phunzie
js28194 63 Posted June 19 Posted June 19 Here's a nuance and challenge I found with this.... If you have "Events" or "Sports" they are categorized as movies. They are rated G, or sometimes not ratings at all and they get intermingled with movies. In my skin, I have separate, UFC, WWF & Comedy main menus, but all those releases still end up in my main Movies section of Kodi. You may experience some bleed over if you have a setup like this. UFC fights ending up in KIDSMOVIES if you will. 1% issues, manageable but annoying.
quickmic 1741 Posted June 20 Posted June 20 The default movie node from Kodi cannot handle libraries but the custom/plugin nodes can deal with it. I don't know how you skin works, but I assume at some point it sill uses the default nodes or the skin nodes.
