App hangs on launch after Shield standby — no requests reach server

Hi all,

I'm running into a consistent issue where the Emby Android TV app hangs on the loading/spinner screen on my Nvidia Shield. Force-stopping the app fixes it; toggling ethernet off/on also fixes it. This happens essentially every day, typically after the Shield has been idle for an extended period (overnight).

Setup:

  • Server: Emby Server 4.8.8.0 on Synology NAS (local IP only)
  • Client: Nvidia Shield Android TV (Android 11, Build RQ1A.210105.003), Emby app 2.1.23g
  • Network: Wired ethernet, local LAN only, no remote access / SSL / UPnP / reverse proxy / Emby Connect for client login
  • Server health: No errors, response times 1–4ms, other clients (iOS, web) unaffected

Symptoms:

  • Launching Emby shows the loading spinner indefinitely
  • Force-stopping the app via Settings → Apps → Force Stop, then relaunching, resolves it immediately
  • Toggling the Shield's ethernet off and back on also resolves it
  • Other apps on the Shield (Netflix, YouTube, etc.) work normally, though those connect to internet services rather than a LAN server, so it isn't a direct comparison

What the server log shows:

At 22:14 on 5/16 I opened Emby on the Shield, found it hung on the spinner, and pulled the server log. The log shows zero incoming requests from the Shield's user agent at that timestamp. The last successful Shield activity was a clean playback-stopped event at 00:36 that same morning:

2026-05-16 00:36:14.407 Info Server: http/1.1 POST .../Sessions/Playing/Stopped. UserAgent: Dalvik/2.1.0 (Linux; U; Android 11; SHIELD Android TV Build/RQ1A.210105.003)

2026-05-16 00:36:14.408 Info SessionManager: Playback stopped reported by app AndroidTv 2.1.23g on SHIELD ... PlaySessionId: 6fe23ad0401a4a77b5ac4bcbf09ed5a5

The following morning's log (5/17 00:00–11:46) likewise contains zero requests from the Shield, despite the device being powered on and on the network.

Trimmed server log excerpt attached.

Happy to run any specific tests or provide additional data. Thanks!
