Is there a setting to prevent images from being created in the genres, tags?

Hi, you’re saying you just want them blank?

Yes, regarding genres and tags, I wanted to leave them blank, but no matter how many I remove, after a while when I add new things the images are recreated. Is there somewhere I can disable this, at least for genres and tags?

Hi, if you wanted to, you could use your own images and make them look nearly identical to the default Emby blank ones, using any graphics app that you may be familar with. I guess there are even online tools you could use?

I think Emby mostly use Google Material Icons (just google it!) and a color picker tool can get the background color. E.g. something like this:

image.thumb.png.537a4086087de650f4460e1890864c1b.png

Use these as a test, or permanently, if you want. These are close, but need more finessing to be an exact match.

Or use any design you want to create yourself???

Then, Emby should not overwrite these with their quadrant images. Of course it will take a while to update all your Genres and Tags, but then you're set and no need to be waiting for Emby to provide a solution. Cheers!

Yes, but that's not even the problem. The issue is that if I add something new (movie, series, anime) and the genre or tag doesn't exist, it will create it using the default images for that genre. So, even if I change all the existing ones, the new ones will be created with images from the content itself, meaning I'll have to update them again, and that's what I don't want – having to constantly adjust new genres or tags...

Not currently but options could be added. So you'd rather just see the same folder icon for all of them?

Yes, just the genre/tag name is enough; there's no need for an image, at least not for me. For now, I'll suggest creating a single image, creating a script here on Linux to replace all genre and tag images with the same one, since that feature doesn't exist yet.

I created a script, but Emby isn't pulling the images. Do I need to make some other changes?

genre-tag-emby.sh

As I said here, since it doesn't have its own feature, I created a script to delete all the automatically generated images, saving an image named folder.jpg in place of each folder (genre and tag). However, Emby doesn't retrieve the image that was saved directly from the folder, which is stored in /var/lib/emby/metadata/genres and /var/lib/emby/metadata/tags. Just putting the image there didn't work, even if I leave the default name "folder". It doesn't work if I just put the images directly in the folder. It's a pain to have to go to Emby, open each genre, tag by tag, and insert the image manually. I have many genres and tags to do this manually.

have you checked out the scan metadata folder scheduled task?

No, what would be the order of the processes? Do I use the script and then run "Scan media library"?

You don't need to run the library scan for what you're doing. Just the scan metadata folder task.

Yes, it worked.
