Welcome/help/howto landing page (on another port)

Hi, would it be possible for you guys to add some kind of landing page for new users?  Another port binding would be perfect for this, with a simple link to 8096 inside of it so they can connect through it easily.

I would use the landing page to link to clients (iOS, Android, etc.) and to explain the interface and how things work to get them going, possibly with screenshots, etc.

Having this right inside the server would be awesome as it would have the same look/css as the client.

Another way to have a help page would be to have a help section or library they can get into from the client and look at what I put inside, and have this same place accessible at the login screen in case they forget their username / etc.

While i like the idea, wouldn't this move Emby in the Netflix replacement direction instead of being a personal server?

That's exactly what it is for me, I bought Emby precisely to replace my Netflix/Disney/Prime subs.  Then I ripped all my DVDs, BDs and gave them away to family/trash.

I share my library with family, and some live far away and I can't go show them how to do things properly, so a help screen would be immensely useful for me, and some way to lock features and options per-user would be nice too, as 90% of them don't really know what things do really.

Check out Wizarr. It does most of what you are asking for and is customizable too.

Nice tool, but directly in Emby would be the best, with nothing to install on the side, etc.

You can due your own pdf how to guide and send them a email.

How could this ever be a Emby concern 🤷‍♂️

And it would help all the share sellers to grow there service.

With the influx of Plex Refugees these suggestions will never see the end.

I would have to send them every time they need it, etc.  A help page inside Emby would be super convenient, a "PDF" viewer if you will...

Share sellers will always find a way to do their thing, this would not "enable" them whatsoever, or at least I don't see how.

And I'm not from Plex, I chose Emby at the start after testing Plex/Jellyfin/Emby side-by-side for months, been here since, no regrets.

I meant "a pirate netflix service."

Having a landing page as you mentioned would make it very much useful for the pirate services out there.
I think the devs would avoid this so they don't get kicked off Google, Samsung, LG and so on stores.

I don't see how any of this tie together.  Pirate content or not, it's the same content in the end.  If I rip my own DVDs then ditch them, I don't own them anymore right?  I can't see how a landing page/help page relate to any of this.  Off topic.

I can only speculate but i would think anything that looks like anything to do with piracy would be banned from such stores.
If i would to guess then Emby is already riding a fine line on those stores.

A landing page would to be look like something of a advertisement solution for those piracy servers that sell "shares".

The next version of Emby will have a banner feature that can be used to communicate with any users your server might have instead.

I think you misunderstood me.  A landing page with help on how to use the client, how to connect to the server with those clients, etc. would be configured and maintained by the server admin not Emby devs themselves.  Same goes for Jellyfin, Plex, etc. they all do the same thing they're clients connecting to a server, no piracy involved.  They market their things as personal media servers, there's a reason...  I could spool up my own webserver with said landing page and be done with it, but it would not have the looks of the Emby client and would not be integrable in the main client.  My goal here is to integrate it in Emby itself, and then could be used in other ways like having a link at the top right to go check the help page, etc.  The said "landing" page placeholder would be made by Emby devs, with whatever they judge good for us to be able to do with it, in a secure manner, etc. that being fixed editable fields, or custom HTML, etc.

The new banner stuff you're talking about  have no idea what it is.  If it could somehow be useful for the usage of the server once connected that's a big plus, half of what I need.

I understood you as you wanting a "Hey! Welcome to the server" kind of page which IMO wouldn't be a good idea, sorry about that.
A better help page for the client would absolutely be useful i agree. I have friends and family members needing the simplest of help because the clients doesn't explain them self very nicely.

A tutorial automatically running after the first install would be nice.
Admittedly i can't remember if Emby already does that.

A "welcome to the server" kind of page would IMO be bad though. ;)

I created a help section library of my own, that my parents can refer to as many times as they need to, when they forget how to do something. Screenshots / photos / short videos that you can create yourself and drop into a 'Help' section on your home screen. Perhaps this would be an option for you.

How did you go about it?  What kind of library, like ebooks?

I used screenshots from a computer. I used Photos of the TV Screen, as well as videos. I also used editing software to add text or create text only instructions for them to accompany the image. Then I simply added them to a 'Mixed Content' library type. Each image/video was given a filename that tells my parents what it is. For example: 'How To Favourite Something", or "How to Add To Playlist". If it requires more than one step, I simply named it with 'Step 1', Step 2', etc. Hope that helps.

Using text, arrows and circling things helps them a lot.

Nice thanks, could be a workaround for now!
