Symen_4ab 4 Posted May 14 Posted May 14 Hi there, A friend is reporting a very recent issue with the emby app: She can't see the video when connected via hdmi to her video projector or tv. Sound works fine, and she can see emby's interface when clicking on the touch screen. She's using Emby for iOS 2.2.52 on an iPad air 4th gen. No transcoding on the server. (Big) log attached, user is host3. Let me know if a cleaner log could be useful, I can restart the server and ask her to try and read a video again. I did a server hardware upgrade at the beginning of the week, but did not change any setting in emby. I'd guess the issue comes from the emby 2.2.52 client update. Thanks embyserver.txt 1
Symen_4ab 4 Posted May 14 Author Posted May 14 Update: video works correctly when using the web app with safari on the same device. (Server has to remux the file, though)

Luke 42598 Posted May 17 Posted May 17 Hi, this is resolved for the next update to the Emby iOS app. Thanks !
Symen_4ab 4 Posted May 19 Author Posted May 19 Thanks for the update and the fix! To be clear, it is not fixed in 2.2.53, correct? According to the app store it was released during our messages exchange here. I cannot test myself, but my friend reports the same issue on 2.2.53.
bcdwyer 0 Posted May 26 Posted May 26 +1 also having this issue. Is there an ETA on the next update for the iOS app?

jamessouth 1 Posted June 11 Posted June 11 It’s been a couple of weeks since the last post. Is there an eta on the fix?

We have some other changes in testing on the app beta channel, so we just need to get everything that we're working on wrapped up and then we can do a new release.
Symen_4ab 4 Posted Thursday at 08:13 PM Author Posted Thursday at 08:13 PM Hello, it's been a month since this bug is resolved for the next version, and a week since the last message in the 2.2.54 testing area thread. Thanks.
Luke 42598 Posted Thursday at 11:54 PM Posted Thursday at 11:54 PM Hi, yes we should have it out soon. Thanks.

IF the app is waiting on an update is there a way to play emby to HDMI output in the mean time? I have a friend that uses emby in their RV and they connect the iPad to the TV to watch when traveling. They typically download some movies to watch when they dont have cell service.

The way I’ve been doing it, is using an app called ‘FE File Explorer Pro’. I can’t remember if it’s free or not, I’ve had it for several years. This app connects to the SMB share directly and can download the files for offline use. So completely bypassing Emby. Keep in mind that it’s not built for media use so there’s no fancy info or GUI and it won’t update Emby when you watch something. It’s purely for files but so far it’s played everything I’ve tried and works fine over HDMI. As someone else mentioned earlier, you can play Emby from the web browser and mirror the screen but this requires remote access to your server.
