I verified this on my end as a bad rip - I saw the same issues locally (the file did play in VLC but it tends to handle errors well). I re-ripped it and put the new copy into the library... It worked on my end so I thought that was the end of it. Then he texted me again saying now it doesn't start at all for him. The background art never goes away and it just sits there. Meanwhile I checked at my end and it says it is playing. I checked the transcode log and unfortunately I don't know what all I'm looking at. It seems to be having some kind of an issue with subtitles, but he says subtitles aren't on. Then he reminded me that this is the same thing another movie is doing for him (but again it works fine at my end). I had him test other movies and TV shows with subtitles on, and they work fine. Can you tell me what exactly it is throwing a hissy fit about with these two? I also included one from a TV show with subs enabled which does work. These are the only two he has mentioned issues with so far, everything else seems to work fine for him. He uses Roku which I don't - I have Android boxes, so I'm not sure if there's something the Roku isn't liking that doesn't affect Android? Thanks PS: Why are edits being subjected to the post cooloff timer? That makes no sense... ffmpeg-transcode-b6e184d9-8f42-4ed7-9a8a-f4bc718cb644_1.txt ffmpeg-transcode-cd3245c3-3885-4777-a396-836537990371_1.txt ffmpeg-transcode-f8ad1a89-163c-474c-aa57-dde57b3ed1f0_1.txt Edited 10 hours ago by taz420nj
speechles 2070 Posted 57 minutes ago Posted 57 minutes ago (edited) It looks like it has to burn in the subtitles. Either dvdsub or pgssub. That extra overhead involves the CPU not just GPU. Then to top it off it is using QuickSync as the hardware encoder for h264. Quote >>>>>> Hardware Encoders for h264 [X] QuickSync DG2 Arc A380 - H.264 (AVC) When I use quicksync I either get an entirely green screen or it never plays. I've disabled quicksync for h264 and now I can transcode on the Roku without locking up. Not saying the Arc A380 has the same issue as the UHD 630. Just saying Roku has an issue with quicksync and it has to transcode since it has graphical subtitles it must burn in those subtitles. If the subtitles were not selected the Roku could likely play this back without issue and play it back directly. Depending on the speed of the internet and the bitrate of the media and your upload speed of your internet. If you try without hardware transcoding does it work? 10 hours ago, taz420nj said: PS: Why are edits being subjected to the post cooloff timer? That makes no sense... We have had spammer/scammer bots leave a legit post at first. Get some traction. Then they modify that first post with hyperlinks leading to their spam/scam website so that Google bots index it and give it a higher search score. To remediate that and keep this from happening it became necessary to limit how new users could alter their previous posts. This is also why you cannot search without being logged in. Because of pesky bots. You can always make a second post and put the new text and explain the old post is outdated. We allow this. You are a human. We understand you have to work with what you are given. It is okay to post a 2nd, 3rd, 4th, etc time with more information and explain how things have changed. Do not be afraid to get in trouble. Only bots need to worry. Real people never have to worry. Edited 49 minutes ago by speechles
