Trial key request to test Live TV with VBox Tuner on Synology DS223

Hi Emby Team, My name is Agostino from Italia
I am currently a Plex user considering a permanent move to Emby with a Lifetime Premiere license.
I own a Synology DS223 (Realtek RTD1619B), which has limited CPU power for video transcoding. My main goal is to ensure that my VBox XTi 3442 TV Gateway (1080i streams) works flawlessly in Direct Play on my Fire TV Stick and iPhone clients, without stressing the NAS CPU.
Since Live TV is a Premiere-only feature, I cannot test the playback performance before purchasing. Would it be possible to get a short trial key (even for 12-24 hours max) to verify if the VBox streams are handled correctly in Direct Play? and other EPG test, I think to configure VBox in M3U mode if not recognized directly
I really want to make sure the DS223 can handle the stream before committing to the Lifetime license.
Thank you for your help!
Best regards,

Agostino

Why don't you subscribe for a Monthly Premiere plan for 5 bucks, little more than a price of cappuccino, and have a month to test it?

I was sorry to pay for a 5 minute trial, but I will consider it anyway

Hi, I’ve purchased a monthly Premiere key and I’m currently running some tests

Regarding DVR and VBox, I found a workaround to import channel logos and EPG data directly from the VBox by modifying the database (sql lite) that generates the XML; this allows me to use the original antenna sources.

I’ve noticed a few bugs concerning DLNA and media previews/thumbnails that Emby is unable to fetch online. Once I’m done testing, I will provide a full report and a guide on how I resolved these issues.

Since my Emby server is still in a testing phase, I have a question about the activation key: if I need to reset or reinstall the server, can I reuse the key as many times as I want, or is it locked to an online activation that requires contacting support each time?"

Hi, I'm finishing testing everything and I'm learning a lot about all the settings behaviors, for backup testing, I'm using the latest DSM ARM8 version (not beta). I think there's a problem with the backup..

I created a folder called "Backup" outside of the media path, shared it on smb, and assigned read/write permissions to the Emby user and local user

Then, in backup and restore, I set the path to "/volume1/Emby/Backup" by browsing the folders

Then I went to scheduletask and started the backup manually but nothing happens, try to set new backup profile in startup but after reboot nothing

In the logs I see this:

2026-05-04 19:09:20.022 Info TaskManager: Executing Run Backup
2026-05-04 19:09:20.022 Info ScheduledTaskService-0HNL9VUCMU1OT:00000026: http/1.1 Response 204 to host1. Time: 5ms. 2026-05-04 19:09:20.042 Info TaskManager: Run Backup Completed after 0 minute(s) and 0 seconds

sems backup terminate quick  (Run Backup Completed after 0 minute(s) and 0 seconds)

what's wrong ??

Thanks in advance

Hi, I managed to fix it. Under the tasks folder (view in ssh) the plugin didn't have permission to create the task. I removed the plugin and then redownloaded it

after restarting the services, it worked.

After several tests, transcoding setting, library, metadata, Tuner and epg, reverse proxy and every single feature also in relation to clients on TVs and apps,  this weekend I reset the NAS and reinstalled everything cleanly. I'm very satisfied with Emby, and I purchased the lifetime license.

Thanks
