ducky893 4 Posted April 27 Posted April 27 I'm using the Google Streamer 4K and the Emby app version 3.5.32. The time displayed here extends beyond the TV screen, so it can't be read correctly. The Emby app for Android TV does not have these issues and displays the time correctly.
GrimReaper 4986 Posted April 27 Posted April 27 That is likely linked to overscan on your TV, try changing few modes to see which one fits best.
ducky893 4 Posted April 27 Author Posted April 27 Thanks for your quick reply. I’ve already tried a few things. Since all the other apps display perfectly, I’m going to assume for now that it’s the Emby app. But I can live with it—it’s really not a big deal
Solution GrimReaper 4986 Posted April 27 Solution Posted April 27 Guess you didn't changed the right setting. Not knowing the brand of your TV: Quote Overscan is a legacy television behavior where the edges of an image are cropped or zoomed in, cutting off 3–10% of the picture, originally designed to hide distorted edges on old CRT (cathode-ray tube) sets. In modern LCD, LED, and OLED TVs, this is unnecessary and reduces picture quality, but it often remains enabled by default, requiring users to switch to "underscan" or "native" modes. Wikipedia +2 Common TV Settings to Disable Overscan Manufacturers use different, often confusing, labels to disable overscan. You are looking for a mode that displays 100% of the image: NVIDIA +4 LG: "Just Scan" (turn to On). Samsung: "Screen Fit" or "Fit to Screen" (under Picture Size). Sony: "Full Pixel" or "Pixel by Pixel". Panasonic: "16:9" with "Size 2" or "Just". TCL: "Auto" or "Direct" (under Aspect Ratio). General Terms: "Screen Fit," "1:1 Pixel Mapping," "Dot by Dot," or "Unscaled". Reddit +5 How to Fix It Access Picture Settings: Use your remote to navigate to the "Picture," "Aspect Ratio," or "Screen" settings. Toggle Options: Cycle through options (e.g., 16:9, Zoom, Just Scan) until the image fits perfectly and you can see all edges. Check Input Source: Often, this setting must be changed for each input (HDMI 1, HDMI 2, etc.) individually. PC/Game Console Check: If using a PC, ensure the computer’s graphics card (Nvidia/AMD/Intel) is not also applying scaling. Reddit +4 Why You Should Disable It Better Picture Quality: Turning off overscan prevents the TV from zooming and re-scaling the image, ensuring a crisper picture. No Cut-off Edges: It brings back the missing edges, which is crucial for PC use (visible taskbar) and gaming (visible UI elements). Correct Resolution: Ensures a 1:1 pixel mapping (e.g., 1080p source = 1080p display), especially important on 4K sets. CNET +1 For modern content, the ideal setting is usually "Just Scan" or "Screen Fit", which eliminates the unnecessary cropping.
ducky893 4 Posted April 27 Author Posted April 27 You're absolutely right—I really was looking in the wrong place. Apparently, all the apps were affected; I just didn't notice it there. This was the solution: LG: “Just Scan” (turn on). Thanks so much for your help! 1 1
