Reducing the resolution locks it.

Hi.

I discovered a strange bug that causes the quality to be locked at a lower level when a higher one is originally available.

This error affects the Emby for Android app. It has been occurring since the last update. - 3.5.32. After rolling back the update to the previous version, this error is gone. - 3.5.28.

It looks like the video is available in 4K quality, I reduce the quality to 1080p, and it stays at that quality. At that point, there's no going back to 4K quality because it's gone. It behaves the same way if I reduce the quality from 1080p to 720p. It gets stuck at the lowest quality with no option to increase it to a higher quality.

Video showing the error. After enabling automatic quality - direct, you can re-enable a higher resolution, but the error persists after changing to a lower resolution.

Is this by design?  Is the lower resolution copy cached and made available to that user? Have you tried logging in as another user?  These settings, I do not believe, are picking a different copy of the media. When you change these resolution settings a new transcoded version, I think, is created from the original stored media.  I would guess once that happens, then that particular user is tied to that version and the original that could be available to another user is no longer called.

Did you believe that mutli resolution copies were available or made automatically?   If you had multiple resolution copies available it would show up on the media page as pull down selection options.  Those don't disappear.  I hope that makes sense.

This happens to all users of Emby for Android version 3.5.32. The previous version, 3.5.28, does not have this error.

This happened to me too. Only way I could find to fix it was to start  video from the beginning and set quality to auto. Quality setting then reverted to normal options.
