Conversions filling system disk: Any way to set a storage cap?

I don't get it. You don't have to redo the jobs if they're working and picking up new items as expected. The items that failed can be converted as one-offs. Getting stung just means a few items don't convert, no loss. Then you'd have to figure out why, fix the problem if possible then convert and move on.

Maybe I'm missing something.

I think the confusion is between the job and the failed items within it. The jobs themselves are fine... they're still there, still picking up new items. The problem is the individual items that were marked as failed during the reboot. Those sit permanently in a failed state with no way to reset them to pending, short of deleting the entire parent job.

The one-off conversion approach would work if all my jobs used the same settings, but each one is dialled differently. Older films and cartoons get more aggressive compression, recent content gets lighter treatment, etc. Recreating 30 jobs from scratch means reconstructing all those settings by hand, which is the evening's work i was trying to avoid.

What I was hoping for was a way to reset individual failed items back to pending (either through the UI or via the API) so they get picked up on the next scheduled task run without having to touch the parent job. Luke's reply suggests that's not currently possible, which is fair enough, but it would be a useful addition especially when failures are caused by external events like a server/nas reboot rather than a problem with the file.

But anyway for now I just created new jobs and with the new NFS mount I'm not having issues...

You do know that you can click on the 3-dot menu for any media item (movie or episode) and convert it, right? That's what I mean by one-off. You have the same settings available as you do for the jobs.

Yes, I'm aware of the 3-dot one-off conversion... that's essentially what I've been doing for the films. The problem is specifically with the TV series where half a season converted and the other half failed. For those, I'd need to go episode by episode through each failed series, recall which settings I'd used for that particular show, and manually trigger each one. Across 30-odd jobs covering multiple series with different specs, that's the tedious part. Like with curb your enthusiasm, there are about a million episodes and about 40% of them converted before the big failure.

What I'm really after is a "retry failed items" button at the job level, so just reset the failed items back to pending and let the scheduled task pick them up with the original job settings intact. That would solve it cleanly. Sounds like it doesn't exist yet...

Does that make sense?

It does make sense. If I'm not mistaken it used to work that way, failed items could be re-queued. But it seems developers changed that and didn't offer a new way of retrying the failed conversions. What's left is manually converting individual items or converting groups/seasons without selecting the new content option to keep it from scheduling as a job.

The multi-item select also offers Convert in the 3-dot menu. Works for movies, series, season and individual episodes.

It also used to be that media which already matched the conversion settings didn't get processed. So if you select a series or season with 40% converted only the remaining 60% would be processed.

And finally, you can create a feature request for the retry button and we'll see how it goes in a year or two.
