Are Sort Titles supported for songs? Words like “a” or “the” are automatically omitted, but the top of my list is populated by songs that start with punctuation.

Hi, yes it is, but it's only used when sorting by song title.

How and where do I add it?

HI, using the metadata editor for a track.

There's no Sort Title option in the Metadata Editor.

It needs to be added.

So...it's not supported?

He's already told you.  The system supports it but you just don't have a way to edit it (yet).

He also said it could be changed in the metadata editor.

And then, later, corrected that:

@ebr@LukeI agree that this issue is confusing to some and I personally hadn't even noticed Emby had this behaviour implemented.

I'd also like to point out that throughout other sections in Emby, sorting by "title" (so also with movies, episodes, show, etc) any articles (a, an, the, etc) are also ommitted.

I hadn't noticed this before, since I just use the search and basically never scroll the these libraries unless I'm filtering by "date added", "release", etc.

I can understand this is confusing to some users though. Isn't there a way to make this a setting?

This is standard sorting practice.

In your System.xml:

  <SortRemoveWords>
    <string>the</string>
    <string>a</string>
    <string>an</string>
  </SortRemoveWords>
