strm vs. local

Is there a way to prioritize local files so they are the default version?

HI, if all things are equal, it should already work out that way. In other words, if you have a file that can direct play, and an strm that can direct play, then it will pick the file.

But if the file requires transcoding and the strm does not, then it may end up picking the strm.

In continue watching the strm copy is always shown first (entries are duplicated).

I haven't tested to see what it looks like if they're both in the same library though.

Oh OK so in that case it's not multi-version. That means they are two separate library items and don't have any relationship.

Well... they should have a relationship. 

Really items shouldn't be duplicated (or more) just because they happen to be in different libraries. 

And even if they need to be short term (until it gets fixed) there should be some way to determine which one shows up first. 

I'd assume Emby has some type of algorithm that determines this? 

I understand I could hide certain libraries but that's more of a short term workaround than a solution.

You can merge them manually if you can get them on the same screen and use the multi-select tool and select merge versions.

That sounds like a lot of work when you're dealing with hundreds of media items.

If you put them in the same library you'd be able to use the automatic grouping options.

For some things that will work but IMO this is a bug that emby should fix. 

There's a few plug-ins / add-ons where creating a seperate library might make sense. 

I'm not the only person with this issue. 

If I recall it took several years before we got the native ability of automatic grouping which was handled by a 3rd party plug-in originally. 

I don't claim it will be simple but it's certainly possible.

It's not a bug. It is by design that the automatic grouping is isolated into each library. But an option to make that extend across all libraries is always a possibility.
