The search experience in Android app needs to be fixed

Emby recommends using the Android (vs ATV) app on your tv. Search in this app on your tv is a terrible experience and unusable.

ATV app/any other app - you get the system search box, onscreen keyboard, voice search

Emby Android app - this is a phone app. it acts like you are on a phone. I have to enter search by navigating and selecting lettters. There's no search button. But it gets worse. There's no feedback, no spinner while it searches.

I described it in my post didn't I? I have to search by selecting letters vs on screen keyboard with voice input in the ATV app.

so this isn't going to be even considered? I don't know how others are using search using Android app, instead of being able to use voice input like with the ATV app, or onscreen keyboard, there's a phone input entry.

Are you saying you have to use letters on your remote control to search?

Might be worth sharing a picture, I’m using the Android app on an android box. I have the ability to use voice for search and the onscreen keyboard.

see attached pics. on android app, there's just 1 row to select letters, very cumbersome and slow and of course its not touchscreen.

frankly I don't see why the ATV app is abandoned, it works so much better except for playback issues but there are other threads for that. while we're at it, the 2 apps have an identical icon making it very hard to pick out, since on Android TV only icon is shown.

Thanks, I can see what you mean now. This looks like something restricted to the Android app running on a firestick. As on my generic android box Ido get the voice search icon. The search mechanism I feel is different, on the Android one as soon as you enter two or more characters it will start delivering search results, so you don’t have to fully type your search term.

 

If I get a chance I’ll dig out my FireStick and set it up again and see if mine is the same.

But the app devs need to look into this.
