mohoelx 12 Posted 17 hours ago Posted 17 hours ago Hi. I use HD Homeruns for recording my Live TV directly into Emby. What I am struggling with is the Closed Captions. We don't use them always, but there are times (like on Watson when Shimwell is speaking) that it would be handy to be able to see them. Problem is, I can't seem to get it figured out. Is there a tutorial somewhere on how to set up so that the recorded closed captions can be turned on at a per-program level?
Luke 42139 Posted 11 hours ago Posted 11 hours ago Hi there, what do you mean exactly by "can't seem to get it figured out" ?
mohoelx 12 Posted 1 hour ago Author Posted 1 hour ago When I turn on CC with the embedded "Default EIA_608" during playback, nothing happens. If I up-arrow during playback and turn off / on CC, no words still. Emby for Android 3.5.28 = no CC, and unfortunately, this is my main watching device (Onn 4k streamer) For fun, I tried two other options this morning. All using the same show; - Emby Android TV 2.1.23g = CC (interestingly, this is on the same Onn 4k streamer - I haven't deleted it yet even though I understand this is depricated and the Emby for Android 3.5.28 is the current supported client). - And for kicks, on my laptop using Windows Emby Theater 3.0.20 = CC Same user on all devices, and as far as I can tell, I have the same options set for each client; Preferred language = English Mode = Default Remember Selections is checked Is this just a client issue with the one client then? Or is there a setting somewhere in that client that I'm just not seeing? Here's a log file and FFMPEG log. I played the same program on; Windows; ended at 9:04 am, CC worked Emby Android TV 2.1.23g; during the 9:06 minute, CC worked Emby for Android 2.5.28; during the 9:09 minute, CC did not work ffmpeg-directstream-bd722f3b-d6f7-4265-b1ba-b1b9ba98f9e1_1.txt embyserver-63908817009.txt
mohoelx 12 Posted 1 hour ago Author Posted 1 hour ago One other little tid-bit. I remember from a previous thread that you had me enable the "Force transcoding" on MPEGTS for this client so that I could start watching an in-progress recording and have FF / REW functional. The FFMPEG log got me thinking, and so I toggled that option OFF and the CC started working. So I can either have CC or I can watch in-progress recordings, but not both. Frustratingly, in the old Android TV app, they both work at the same time. Not sure what code update would be needed for the supported app to work as well as the depricated app, but I'd love to see that happen!
