Blatherscribe 6 Posted March 9 Posted March 9 I have emby working on a Synology NAS, and usually use a Roku device to play shows and everything works fine. But if I do try to play something in a web browser on my computer, it doesn't really work. It takes several minutes of a spinning "busy" circle before it begins playing, and then playback is extremely choppy. Is this a limitation of how emby works with a NAS? Or a setting I should change? If this is a problem inherent to trying to transmit data from the NAS to a browser, that's OK, I'm just curious to know if I've missed something. Thanks! embyserver.txt
Blatherscribe 6 Posted March 17 Author Posted March 17 Yes, it never seems to work with a web browser. I've also noticed (but forgot to mention) that sometimes when I tell emby to play a show on my Roku devices, nothing happens. It just removes all the buttons and verbiage from the screen, leaving the background image, but doesn't actually play. I can use the back button and try again and it works on the second attempt. I haven't caught a log file from that because it's fairly rare. Neither of these things ever happened when everything was on my computer, so I'm wondering if it has something to do with synchronizing with the multiple hard drives in the NAS.
Blatherscribe 6 Posted May 2 Author Posted May 2 I just did, and it's still a problem. It took about 30 seconds of the spinning "busy" circle for the episode to start, and when it does, the playback is very choppy. It seems to be dropping about one-third to one-half the frames. Same episode on Roku, two seconds of "busy" circle and perfect playback. Thanks for checking into this!
Luke 42478 Posted 12 hours ago Posted 12 hours ago Hi, have you updated to Emby Server 4.9.5? Has that helped?
Blatherscribe 6 Posted 3 hours ago Author Posted 3 hours ago I just updated, and if anything it's worse. It took 45 seconds for a TV episode to resume in my browser, it played for about half a second, then a 30-second busy symbol, then maybe 0.1 second of playback (just enough for a blip of sound without the picture changing), then back to busy. It just really does not like working with a web browser.
