Robgh 4 Posted February 10 Posted February 10 I have emby server version 1.3.51 running in TrueNAS,, and some of my media files are in non English speaking, I have signed up with Open Subtitles, and have a subtitles listed under my user preferences. What else do I need to do to get the subtitles to actually work and show at the bottom of the screen. thanks
Robgh 4 Posted February 11 Author Posted February 11 This is what I have after I click on the 3 dots of a video file:
GrimReaper 4738 Posted February 11 Posted February 11 Does your user have permission to download subtitles?
Robgh 4 Posted February 11 Author Posted February 11 Where will I find out if you mean in emby server
GrimReaper 4738 Posted February 11 Posted February 11 Settings>Users tab in the sidebar>edit desired User
Robgh 4 Posted February 11 Author Posted February 11 (edited) I found where to 'edit subtitles' after looking again on the 3 dots of a video file, and after I select search , No results found. Have you configured subtitle downloading? So I go to Downloads, but I have to enter a temporary path. Would that be on my NAS server or anywhere else. Thanks Edited February 11 by Robgh wrong picture
Robgh 4 Posted February 11 Author Posted February 11 Update: I did enter a temporary path on my NAS server, then saved it, but what next, I mean how do I actually downloads the subtitle files
Robgh 4 Posted February 11 Author Posted February 11 I found a guide on google on how to download the subtitle files, and have setup a download interval. Thanks

Robgh 4 Posted February 11 Author Posted February 11 Well I schudeled the download of subtitles for 15.00 hrs, thinking it would be today. As it is now after 16.00hrs in the UK, I have checked the folder I selected for the download, and so far there is no subtitle file there. Out of interest what does 'time limit' mean when setting a trigger, as I have just used 3 hours. Thanks
Robgh 4 Posted February 11 Author Posted February 11 Edit; out of interest I looked in 2 of my media folders on my server and there are plugin folders in both , and when I opened the said folder there I saw a file: OpenSubtitles.dll, and the date on those files is or was 28th January 2026 Should subtitles be working then or am I confused. Thanks
Luke 42077 Posted February 11 Posted February 11 How did you configure the automatic subtitle download options on each library?
Luke 42077 Posted February 11 Posted February 11 Quote Should subtitles be working then or am I confused. Subtitles work just fine, but do your video files have any subtitles?
Robgh 4 Posted February 11 Author Posted February 11 I used this in google : how to download subtitle files for emby server TrueNAS which I followed, but basically I went settings, scheduled tasks, then subtitles. After that: Downloads and settings, but when I select downloads, it says no items found To your 2nd reply, no there are no subtitles with the Russian language video
Luke 42077 Posted February 11 Posted February 11 Have you taken a look at the troubleshooting steps at the bottom of: Automatic Subtitle Downloads
Robgh 4 Posted February 11 Author Posted February 11 When I go the Open Subtitles, which I downloaded/ installed last night, I get this:
Luke 42077 Posted February 11 Posted February 11 Right but then there are settings for each of your Emby libraries as discussed here: Automatic Subtitle Downloads
Robgh 4 Posted February 11 Author Posted February 11 |Sorry, I can't just where it says 'Show advanced settings' Is that in Edit subtitles because that shows most languages which I can't edit. But where says 'editing the library' where is that option then
Robgh 4 Posted February 12 Author Posted February 12 Sorry, not for me . This my menu when I click on the 3 dots for the library:
Robgh 4 Posted February 12 Author Posted February 12 I selected Edit , as there is no Edit Subtitles in the drop down list of the library, but I don't know how to allow users to download subs
