In 4.4.2.0 disabled accounts are filtered when processing. I use disabled accounts, preventing signing in as those accounts, as templates (for creating new accounts) similar to how these "master profiles" would be used. If a master profile account is disabled how does 4.4.2.0 handle that? If you have to enable the account, then do a full sync, then disable I'm not sure I'd use it that way due to the friction. Yeah I see the issue... But if it's not really being used, why not set your own password and have it enabled? Then hide it from all the login screens and its pretty much the same as a disabled user? I don't believe it should work since its disabled now. I'm leaning towards to redo this a bit, adding an option in settings to choose if you want to process disabled users or not. However, that doesn't fix your case. I'll give it some thinking how to do this or not. This feels like a pretty niche use case.

Today, the plugin can create collections, playlists, or tag individual media items at various levels (series, season, episode, movie) which gives users flexibility, but would a user really know or care whether items are tagged or grouped into a collection or playlist? I'm unsure whether the majority of users even know the differences. The distinction between them: Playlist - can only contain media items and has a user defined sort Collection - can contain anything including containers like series and can be populated from MovieDb (which I think is irrelevant for the plugin) Tags - can tag anything Thoughts/questions: Are there any use cases you can think of where tagging accomplishes an outcome that couldn't be solved with collections or playlists? If there is, is it a common use case or niche? For the source types in the plugin today would collections suffice for all? If that's the case does the plugin need to expose tags or playlists? If not, then it makes sense to simplify the UX and logic to use collections. If that's the outcome then allowing users to add multiple tags to the collection would solve the original use case 44 minutes ago, soderlund said: Yeah I see the issue... Yeah, multiple ways to accomplish this and pragmatically both would work although your attack surface is lower if the accounts are disabled. 46 minutes ago, soderlund said: I don't believe it should work since its disabled now. Yeah, I believe it's likely a niche use case and I can count on one hand the number of users I've seen posting they disable accounts. What I think likely needs deeper context and thought is how should templating workflows exist in the plugin if that's truly the direction you want to go based on the use cases you're solving. For instance, is there another way to template without involving accounts and what might that look like? Perhaps a user would create profiles that exist within the plugin and assign sources to a profile and rather than sources mapping to user accounts the profile is mapped to user accounts. That abstraction would allow a lot of fine-grained control over content. For example, maybe the profiles aren't related to users, but seasons (Fall, Summer, Spring, Winter) and that adds the ability for theming. I know I've said a lot and likely didn't directly answer your original question, but it's important to think about what you want to accomplish with the plugin and the direction so things aren't haphazardly implemented. That's my opinion anyways!

Depending on the use case, all three available options have their place.

That's my opinion anyways! I’m a bit confuse mate.. I thought you advocated to have a function to add tags to collections and playlists? But now I’m getting the feeling you might think it’s a bit too much? I totally agree that this is mostly for power users that have a higher knowledge about Emby and it’s different ways to customize. I do want to target both audiences, both the ones who want a quick and easy setup, and also those who want to do a bit more (since I’m one of them). One thing came to mind right now, to have a settings level with “standard” and “advanced”. Where advanced would show these kind of settings. To summarize an answer to your thought experiments, yes tags are the in my opinion the best way to solve a lot of things! Collections could do the same results, but then we would end up cluttering the server with 50 collections only for the purpose of having them as home sections/rows. Tags are more or less invisible for the users and doesn’t clutter anything. This plugin focus has always been, and will always be, a help to create and maintain a living and curated Home Screen. Meeting demands to also create collections and playlists from the source. For the basic user a source, tag and home section option would very much suffice, yes. But that doesn’t meet the broad audience (and not my own need - which tbh is the main reason this plugin exist). I believe the current UI and settings are at a good balance. It could be hard for a novice to set up and still give the user a lot of options. There are very few cases when users ask how to do things. When starting to implement fixes for a more narrow use case I will probably end up with a “settings level” setting. (I’ll think about this a bit more since everyone anyway tend to set this to expert level..)

Sorry if my last post didn't land, here's a concrete example: When a user clicks Add New Source these are the tabs: [ Source ][ Schedule ][ Blacklist ][ Home Screen ] In the Source tab the user would see these configuration options: [ Source ] Display Name: Sourced Type: Grouping Type: [ Collection, Playlist ] Grouping Tags: [ User can add 0+ tags applied to the grouping ] ... other collection/playlist settings 4 hours ago, soderlund said: Tags are more or less invisible for the users and doesn’t clutter anything Yeah, that's fair.
soderlund 221 Posted October 22 Author Posted October 22 New BETA release - Version 4.4.3.0-beta Download .dll and full release notes: https://github.com/soderlund91/HomeScreenCompanion/releases/tag/v4.4.3.0-beta Quite a long changelog again. Most of the changes comes from a revamped Copy & Sync. Other than that some fixes from previous beta release and general bug-fixes. Install/update via Emby plugin catalog or manually download the .dll. If you are going through the plugin catalog, make sure to use the beta channel. IMPORTANT! Minimum required Emby server v4.10.1.0 Release notes I really wanted the 4.4.2.0 go to a stable version, but i got some feeling and expanded the Copy & Sync function quite a lot. This is hopefully the last beta before I go stable! Thanks @Brazerfor helping with some coding and fixing bugs and adding some functions! Always do a backup before updating! To be extra safe also do a full Emby backup. New: Copy & Sync profiles: Copy & Sync can now have several profiles, each with its own source user and its own users to copy to. For example, one profile for the adults and one for the children. Several profiles can use the same source user, for example to copy different rows to different users. A user gets their home screen from one profile only. Your existing setup becomes the first profile automatically. Example: Joey copy to --> Rachel, Monica, Phoebe, Chandler and Ross Ted copy to --> Barney, Robin, Marshall and Lily Copy & Sync – what to copy: each profile has a What to copy setting: Everything: the user's home screen is replaced with the source user's. Keep each user's own rows (on by default) keeps rows the user gets from their own sources or top-lists, even if the source user doesn't have them. Turn it off for an exact copy. Selected rows only: tick the rows to copy. Only those rows are added or updated, and the rest of the user's home screen stays as it is. Tags: a source can now put more than one tag on its titles. Use Add another tag in the Tag tab. Collections & playlists: you can now put a custom tag on the collection or playlists a source creates. The tag goes on the collection or playlist itself, not on the titles in it. AI: add any AI service that works like ChatGPT, such as Groq, OpenRouter, DeepSeek, LM Studio or vLLM, under Settings → AI Settings → OpenAI-compatible. Give it a name, its address, a key and a model. It then shows up by name in a source's AI Provider list. Updates: Copy & Sync: when a user gets a row from a source or top-list, they are now also added to that source or top-list, so the row keeps updating. If you untick the row or remove the user from the profile, they are taken off it again. Users you added yourself are never removed. Copy & Sync: on the first run after updating, the users you copy to are added to the source user's sources and top-lists. You'll see them in those sources' user lists. Their home screen looks the same as before, but the rows now update properly. Copy & Sync: if the source user has a personal playlist row (such as Your Next Watch), each user you copy to gets their own playlist with the next full sync. AI: the Model field for every AI service is now a list read from the service itself, so a model name can't be mistyped. Custom… still takes any name. Your current model stays selected. Top-lists: Create as top-list has a new Content choice, Auto (based on the source). The plugin looks at what the source returns and makes a movie list or a TV show list to match. Auto is the default for new top-lists. Lists already set to Movies or TV Shows keep their choice. Fixes: Home Screen Sync: rows from a source could disappear after the scheduled sync and come back at the bottom after the next full sync. General: several smaller bugfixes in Copy & Sync, top-lists, settings and backup restore. Top-lists: the move of old top-lists into Create as top-list (added in 4.4.2) has been fixed A source that also had its own home row kept that row. Its top-list now stays in the Top-Lists tab instead of replacing the row. Apply Tag is no longer switched off, so the tag stays on your titles. (Turning off the tagging was a deliberate change since I thought they were only used to create a Top-list. My mistake and I'm sorry if that messed anything up for you.) Restoring only the Sources section of a backup no longer deletes your top-lists. The move now runs only once. Note: If you have already run 4.4.2.0 The fix for Top-Lists above prevents the possible problem from now on, but it can't undo what 4.4.2 already changed. Check your top-list sources after updating: A home row disappeared, or a source now shows far fewer users than before: restore that source's users from a backup made before 4.4.2, or select them again on the source's Home Screen tab. A tag is missing from your titles: turn Apply Tag back on for that source and run it again. If you didn't use tag-based top-lists before 4.4.2, nothing changed for you. HomeScreenCompanion.dll
soderlund 221 Posted October 23 Author Posted October 23 New BETA release - Version 4.4.3.1-beta Download .dll and full release notes: https://github.com/soderlund91/HomeScreenCompanion/releases/tag/v4.4.3.1-beta Install/update via Emby plugin catalog or manually download the .dll. If you are going through the plugin catalog, make sure to use the beta channel. IMPORTANT! Minimum required Emby server v4.10.1.0 Release notes Fixes for some unexpected/unwanted behavior for the user from 4.4.3.0-beta. Always do a backup before updating! To be extra safe also do a full Emby backup. Updates: Copy & Sync: each profile has a new setting, Also add users to the sources and top-lists of copied rows. It is off by default, so Copy & Sync works as it did before 4.4.3: rows are copied, nobody's source or top-list users are changed, and a top-list row only goes to the list's own users. Turn it on if you want each user to be added to the sources and top-lists of the rows they get. The rows then keep updating for them, and they get their own playlist rows, such as Your Next Watch. Copy & Sync: an exact copy (Keep each user's own rows off) only takes users off sources and top-lists when the new setting is on. The page asks first, because it also removes users you selected yourself, and switching back does not put them back. With the setting off, an exact copy only replaces the home screen. Rows from the user's own sources come back with the next full sync. Copy & Sync: deleting a profile now asks first. Copy & Sync: the page now explains what pausing does. Unticking Enable Home Screen sync or Sync this profile changes nothing: users keep their home screens and stay on the sources and top-lists Copy & Sync added them to. To take them off those, delete the profile. Fixes: Copy & Sync: unticking a user, deleting a profile or switching to Selected rows only no longer removes rows from people's home screens. They are taken off the sources and top-lists Copy & Sync added them to, but keep the rows they have. A personal playlist row, such as Your Next Watch, still goes. Unticking a row in Selected rows only still removes that row. Copy & Sync: Selected rows only no longer overwrites or removes a user's own row that has the same name as a copied row. Copy & Sync: users who are disabled in Emby are left alone until they are enabled again, also when they are removed from a profile. Settings: after a Copy & Sync run, an open settings page could no longer save ("changed elsewhere"). Changes the run made to sources' user lists are now kept together with yours. NOTES: If you have already run 4.4.3.0 4.4.3.0 added the users you copy to to the source user's sources and top-lists without asking. 4.4.4.0 does not undo this, so nothing changes on its own after you update. To remove them, take them off those sources and top-lists in their user lists, or delete and re-create the profile. Their home screens stay as they are, except the personal playlist rows (such as Your Next Watch) that 4.4.3.0 created for them. HomeScreenCompanion.dll

Then from within the plugin send request to Sonarr/Radarr. My question is how does this apply with the Emby development policy? The HSC plugin is not doing or managing any downloads, it only send a request to another service outside of Emby. Tagging all the admins from the staff overview in hope for a reply. @Luke @ebr @Abobader @bigjohn Thanks! Could I get some response? horstepipe 434 Posted October 25 Posted October 25 What I‘d love to see is the ability to randomly rotate between a collection list A on Monday - maybe even on a time frame? - and collection list B on tuesday. acdb.tv basically has that feature but it is too pricey in my opinion for what it offers - I could get to that with some scripting and my current mdblist account, too. BR and thanks for that great plugin!

Set up another source group, same tag, set schedule to work on Tuesedays. And so on I would now recommend to use Embys native menu for creating home sections and then filter on the tag (if using the plugin option it will create one row for each group. This is possible as well but will clutter the setting UI. You also need to order them after each other). If you want this to apply on multiple users use the copy sync function to copy the row to multiple users.. Another option is to add them to a collection using the schedule, then show the collection on the home screen. A third option is to use a source that is random and changing titles once a day. 2 hours ago, horstepipe said: I don’t think this is a good idea. Why not? Please elaborate. If approved by the devs I'm thinking it will all be hidden in the UI until you turn on "Enable Radarr/Sonarr support" in settings. horstepipe 434 Posted October 26 Posted October 26 Thanks for that info, will try it out! Yes, basically I meant that for sure this won’t be approved by the devs so better don’t try it if you want to stay in the catalogue.

Yes, basically I meant that for sure this won’t be approved by the devs so better don’t try it if you want to stay in the catalogue. It’s worth to ask the question at least. And there are other plugins outside of the catalogue that’s acting like a bridge to Sonarr/Radarr that the devs haven’t banned. And historically there are other plugins talking directly to the torrent client that the devs banned even outside of the catalogue. So we kind of need to know where the line is drawn. And I mean Sonarr/Radarr is really only a media manager program. Those sowtware aren’t downloading anything. Even a torrent client isn’t in any violation with the law, it’s up to you what you are using them to do. From your point of view one could even make the argument that Emby is an illegal software since it allows you to manage illegally acquired content. And should we ban driving because a car can be driven above the speed limits? Anyhow, the devs need to clarify where the line is drawn. 1

Using the test button you will still see the whole list and what you have or not in your library. Using the limiter only the first 20 hits will get tagged. Then i would suggest to use the plugins home screen option and create one row for each list. Edit: And I would strongly suggest running the beta version of the plugin for this, since there has been major improvements on how a group is handled when outside of its schedule I'll try to guide you with some screenshots below in the spoiler. Basically what we want to to is set up 3 different groups, on different schedules, and then add them as home sections. After that we need to put them in the correct order so the rows replaces each other correctly. (we need to put the after each other on the home screen in other words). If you want this for multiple users you could either do this manually or using the copy function. If you are running the beta of the plugin you could select position on the home screen when setting it up (see images). Done. Spoiler Step 1: Set up the source Step 2: set up the schedule Step 3: Create home section Step 5: Set up the other sources Step 6: Run the plugin Either by running the 3 groups by them self, or the full "Tag & Collection" task This will the create the tags and the home section. Step 7: Order them on the home screen for all users (if not already done by the beta function) They need to be after each other in order to accurately replace each other.
