Weirdo configuration possible ?

Hi,

Due to some constraints, I'm thinking about a weirdo configuration but not sure it would work. Does someone know if the description below of the configuration would work ?

I have two sites, each one will be running Emby server on Synology NAS. From what I have seen it's quite a nightmare to setup it properly and efficiently for the SSL certificate and reverse proxy on Synologx so I plan to run it only in http mode and so not avalaible remotely (no big deal as each site has a local Emby server).

Player will be on AppleTV and so for ease of configuration and maintenance I was planning to link the local user in Emby to an Emby.media account but will it work if the server is not reachable from outside for stream (although the synology nas will have internet access). If you log the player using an emby media account it lists the servers that have some account linked to it but will it reach a server in LAN through LAN or internet public IP ?). Sorry not very easy to explain but hope it's enough clear...

Thanks,

Vincèn

You'll need to have an SSL certificate if you want users on remote locations to be able to reach the server via Emby Connect. At least, my users can't connect when my SSL had expired previously.  Also connecting via app.emby.media won't work as this also requires an SSL certificate.

You cán connect the tv / apps directly via the http protocol though. You won't be able to use Emby Connect but you can (or should, no clue how Apple TV will handle this) let them connect directly via an IP or http domain if you don't plan on using http at all you can let them directly connect to the IP instead.

While I don't use Emby Connect I don't believe this is true, there is both an HTTP and an HTTPS page for app.emby.media - most web browsers will automatically redirect to HTTPS, but you can definitely use the HTTP address to connect to an HTTP only instance assuming all remote access is setup correctly. Though of course I don't recommend connecting remotely via HTTP, but it does work.

I'm not really clear on why you need 2 servers for this or what they have to do with each other if there's no remote access anyway? Not really sure what you're even trying to achieve here.

Oki thanks for your details, so I don't need/should not use Emby Connect and connect local players at local Emby server in http mode and all should be good :) I'll just have to check if Emby on AppleTV is ok to connect at server in http only !

Hi, yes it can connect over the LAN via http.
