barrettuk 3 Posted January 29 Posted January 29 Hopefully this is the right place to ask this... I started using EMBY for my TV Shows and have good success using MakeMKV to rip the discs, takes a while to make sure I have the correct episodes identified but has been ok for the few I have done so far. I would love to know if there is a better way to make the episode identification more automated, but my major issue right now is with the Blu-ray of Star Trek TNG. Disk 1 season one and the first episode should be far point part 1 and the second episode far point part 2, on the disc it looks like one extra-long episode, but I cannot even get the 3 titles I ripped to match up, looks like the intro is missing on all 3 and not matching at all. So, then I though should I just create an ISO of each disc, would that work and be a better way of doing this or is there another way to do it? Movies are so much easier Thank you.
Luke 42077 Posted January 29 Posted January 29 Hi, I definitely would suggest trying to name your files to match tvdb. That will just make things easier in terms of metadata. 1
RanmaCanada 494 Posted January 29 Posted January 29 Seamless branching can be a problem, but makekmv should be able to handle it. It's just a matter of checking their forums and seeing if someone has the correct branch you should select for your rip. 1
Apotropaic 41 Posted January 30 Posted January 30 Hi, I did a lot of ripping a long time ago but mostly dvds, I did the whole of TNG, Deep Space Nine and Voyager, there were many issues with episodes out of order and broadcast and episode orders…lol But when you say the intro’s are missing, are you saying the ripping process is missing parts of the episodes? As for naming, I believe makemkv lets you set a prefix, I think that’s the best you can do. It is annoying to amend each filename but you can copy/paste quite easily once you have a rhythm going. You’ll find a lot of these double length episodes, I’d recommend keeping them that way and just name it as [show name] - s01e01ep2. Emby supports a number of different ways to do this. I prefer this over ripping ISO’s, playback isn’t always guaranteed on all devices/apps and you lose the episode watched status and rich library views. 1

brothom 177 Posted January 30 Posted January 30 @barrettukit's a lot of work, but personally I prefer to name each file as the naming convention requires, which is: Show (year) - s0Xe0X - Episode name.ext On 29/01/2026 at 06:11, barrettuk said: Disk 1 season one and the first episode should be far point part 1 and the second episode far point part 2, on the disc it looks like one extra-long episode According to https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0094030/?ref_=ttep_ep_1 and https://www.themoviedb.org/tv/655-star-trek-the-next-generation/season/1/episode/1 this is indeeed an episode that's just extra long. On TVDB the episode it is in fact split up in a part one and two: https://thetvdb.com/series/star-trek-the-next-generation/seasons/official/1 Since you want to use TVDB you would want to name your file: Star Trek The Next Generation (1987) - s01e01-e02 - Encounter at Farpoint.ext You can indicate that a file contains multiple episodes. The other episodes can be simply kept the same: Star Trek The Next Generation (1987) - s01e03 - The Naked Now.ext Star Trek The Next Generation (1987) - s01e04 - Code of Honor.ext ... etc 1
