tbischof72 0 Posted January 28 Posted January 28 Problem description Playback error “no compatible streams” for all files 4K, HD Only on Samsung TV via Emby app Plays fine on Windows, Android (Pixel phone), Google TV (Hisense TV) and even if directly played on the Samsung TV (selecting the file via ‘connected devices’ on the NAS) It also used to work for the last 2+ years, not sure though when it stopped working, sometime late Q3 early Q4 2025 … System details Samsung model number: QN90B (2022, US model) Samsung firmware version: 1710 (released 10/2025) Emby server on Synology NAS DS418play with DSM 7.2.1-69057 Update 8 Emby server version: 4.9.3.0 Samsung Emby client version: 2.3.0 (updated via USB, tried as a remedy, but also not working with the official release available from Samsung) Attached are the server and any transcode logs during the time of playback. Luke 42077 Posted January 29 Posted January 29 How have you configured the quality setting in the app?
tbischof72 0 Posted January 29 Author Posted January 29 Yes, I tried all kind of settings in the Samsung emby app - under playback auto/4k, 1080p ... Also tried Force transcoding on/off ...
tbischof72 0 Posted January 30 Author Posted January 30 No, I'm only getting ffmpeg logs when I can play the movie successfully, e.g. via the Hisense TV or directly on windows. If I play on the Samsung I only get an activity recording like this and a general log. see next screen shot the ffmpeg log here from earlier (5:08pm) is when I played a file directly form the windows pc Attached the latest log file ... hope that helps? embyserver_log_01292026.txt

Can you please turn off any forced transcoding, remove any bitrate limits and try doing a playback test, preferably after a server restart so that the log is short and only has this playback test. Please upload the fresh server log and any ffmpeg logs from the same test. I'm assuming the TV/server are both local, is that correct? Are you using a reverse proxy? Thanks
tbischof72 0 Posted February 3 Author Posted February 3 forced transcoding is off removed any bitrate limits, was auto and set it to high value, so I don't get the "Bitrate exceeds DirectStream limit" anymore yes, all on the same local network, hard wired, not wifi, no reverse proxy. Again no ffmpeg logs, here's the latest sever log, tried 2 movies, one 4k the other HD Thanks! embyserver_02032026_b.txt
SamES 1056 Posted February 4 Posted February 4 Can you post the media info for those two files so that i can see the stream types? For some reason, it looks like transcoding isn't starting which is would explain why you would have no ffmpeg logs @Lukecan you see any reason from this log that transcoding isn't starting? Otherwise, what would cause transcoding to not start?
SamES 1056 Posted February 4 Posted February 4 OK, so they both need to transcode as DTS and TrueHD are not supported in the TV, so we need to work out why transcoding is failing.
tbischof72 0 Posted February 4 Author Posted February 4 Ok, I had not tried the different audio options, so now I did and it seems like only a limited number of formats work. Wasn't aware that Samsung dropped DTS support So is emby supposed to transcode an unsupported audio format or will I only be able to play files with formats supported by the player (here Samsung TV)? The 4K file has multiple audio tracks, True HD failed, but when I tried AC3 it worked For this HD file only the AC3 plays, the 2 DTS fail Same for this one, only AC3 works
SamES 1056 Posted February 4 Posted February 4 Correct, those formats won't direct play but they should all be transcoding. On your server do you ever see any ffmpeg logs? If you try playback on another device, maybe in a browser, and use the quality setting during playback to drop the quality down to a medium/low value to force it to transcode, does it actually transcode and do you get ffmpeg logs then?
tbischof72 0 Posted February 4 Author Posted February 4 Yes, I do get ffmpeg logs for display on other devices, e.g. on a amazon fire tablet (android), see attached but not if I cast from the same tablet or windows to my Oppo, or if I play the same file/movie directly on the Samsung TV and select a compatible audio format ffmpeg-transcode-2baae8b5-b490-4984-9ea3-b736d9faf9f7_1.txt
SamES 1056 Posted February 4 Posted February 4 It's a bit of a long shot, but can you fully uninstall any emby apps (store and beta). Make sure you uninstall from the apps screen, don't just remove the icon from the home screen. Then remove power from the TV for a minute (don't just turn the tv off) then try reinstalling an app and retest
tbischof72 0 Posted February 4 Author Posted February 4 tried to set 'force encoding' on on the samsung app, still no ffmpeg logs ...
SamES 1056 Posted February 4 Posted February 4 3 minutes ago, tbischof72 said: tried to set 'force encoding' on on the samsung app, still no ffmpeg logs ... Yes, something is not right. I would try a clean reinstall as I detailed above
tbischof72 0 Posted February 4 Author Posted February 4 (edited) Tried both from the Samsung app store first, then beta via usb, both clean installs and powered off/unplugged the TV for 1+ minute Unfortunately no luck, only directly plays files w/ compatible audio format, but does not transcode Also not be able to play some other files that seem to have the right audio format Again, no ffmpeg logs ever for anything played from the Samsung app Question, I don't have emby premiere, might that make a difference? If so I can get it ... Edited February 4 by tbischof72
SamES 1056 Posted February 5 Posted February 5 Are you entering the correct IP and port in the app? Make sure you're not trying to use https
SamES 1056 Posted February 5 Posted February 5 I would also suggest that you double check the TV's IP, subnet mask and gateway are all correct in the main TV settings
tbischof72 0 Posted February 5 Author Posted February 5 Yes, all those are correct. And I can play a file as long as I select an audio track that the TV can handle directly, like here: AC3 plays, TrueHD fails with the error
SamES 1056 Posted February 5 Posted February 5 Have you got anything in these settings on the server?
tbischof72 0 Posted February 5 Author Posted February 5 Yes, LAN networks is set to match 'Home (LAN) access', see screenshots below
tbischof72 0 Posted February 5 Author Posted February 5 yes it is blanking out 'LAN networks' in the server settings did not make a difference
