JK1969 1 Posted January 25 Posted January 25 I know someone is working on a music player for emby but also need it to scrape the files for their star user ratings. I have a big music collection so I usually just put the 5 star rating playlist. Sorry if this is in the wrong topic. Just like Windows Media player and Media Monkey read the ratings in the files extended metadata. I know in Foobar 2000 and Mediainfo the ratings go to 100 instead of stars.
user24 313 Posted January 25 Posted January 25 Hi there are already similar feature requests for this, but here are a couple of suggestions that may be helpful??? If you have your ratings playlists stored as M3U files, you could try importing them into Emby. If your music has embedded ratings tags (e.g. POPM tag for MP3 files, RATING tag for FLAC files), you could use Mp3tag to copy these to ROONTRACKTAG field and then you can import your ratings into the Emby Tag field. With both of the above, you can then use Emby functionality to keep your playlists/tags up to date when you add new music or change the ratings. It takes a little bit of work on your part, but you can have any ratings scale you want and it will be immediately useable within Emby.
JK1969 1 Posted January 26 Author Posted January 26 (edited) Thanks for the heads up. I already have used my 5 Star playlist from Media Monkey, but being able to update ratings definitely helps. Like you said the work to do it is going to take a bunch of time. I don't know if you remember in Windows 7 Flac files were not able to be read by Windows Media Player? It took days for me to re-enter ratings until Windows media player plus came out. Edited January 26 by JK1969

Yeah, I initially usually used WMA files with Windows for a while, which wasn't that great for compatibility with other systems. By the time Windows had FLAC, I had already moved on to other options such as Media Monkey and MusicBee. Emby is quite good for customizing (better than Plex, I think), but does lack some music functions, compared to dedicated music apps/programs. If you didn't know already - Emby is reportedly going to have Smart Playlists very very soon, so that should also help with anything you are wanting to set up automatically with ratings and playlists outside of having it fully built in as a core function. Cheers! 1
