tanStaafl 14 Posted January 23 Posted January 23 This has been an on and off nuisance for a while, but of late it is constant. In the fetcher I have only the Primary, banner and logo selected but daily I get 5-20+ fanart.jpg files created and saved to multiple folders. I really don't need these and I would like it to stop  It just takes up unnecessary space. Help?
Luke 42077 Posted January 23 Posted January 23 HI there, can you please provide a specific example? How to Report a Problem Thanks ! Â
tanStaafl 14 Posted January 24 Author Posted January 24 Simply put, on a daily basis an number of fanart.jpg files will be created in the folders in my Movies library. I haven't tracked which ones as it seems random, everyday different ones. It doesn't seem to repeat, but then it hasn't created fanart.jpg files for all my movie videos yet (I think). I have it set to save images to folders, but I don't have the art option selected, just the Primary, banner and logo. Display backdrops is also not selected. My system already provides three backdrops for each movie video so the fanart is unnecessary and redundant. Thanks in advance!!
Luke 42077 Posted January 24 Posted January 24 Hi there, please attach the Emby server log from when the problem occurred: How to Report a Problem Thanks! Â
Happy2Play 9780 Posted January 24 Posted January 24 @tanStaaflAnd what is your per library image fetcher setting?
tanStaafl 14 Posted January 24 Author Posted January 24 @Happy2PlayI only have Primary, banner and logo checked. My list doesn't include Disc and Thumb? On latest version of Emby. @LukeFor the first time in weeks it didn't do it last night, will post log when it rears it ugly head again. 1
tanStaafl 14 Posted January 25 Author Posted January 25 @Happy2PlayI only have Primary, banner and logo checked. My list doesn't include Disc and Thumb? On latest version of Emby. Always another setting  No, it was set to 3, but it NEVER added more than one fanart.jpt AND my system pulls down 3 backdrops automatically and places them in the folders. The difference is my system actually names them backdrop, backdrop1, backdrop2... does Emby not recognize they are already there? Only slightly confused. Set backdrops (fanart??) to 0 Happened again last night. LOL.. I wrote a sub to remove.. What logs do you want if any?

If it was set to 3 then it is expected to get up to 3 per whatever provides have for the content. As for backdrop vs fanart naming both are acceptable and will be read. From the KB Several image types support multiple file names. They are listed in the order that they're checked for. Image Type Supported file names Primary {name}.ext  {name}-poster.ext  {name}-cover.ext  {name}-default.ext  {name}-movie.ext  folder.ext  poster.ext  cover.ext  default.ext  movie.ext Art {name}-clearart.ext  clearart.ext Backdrop backdrop.ext, backdropX.ext  fanart.ext, fanart-X.ext  background.ext, background-X.ext  art.ext, art-X.ext  extrafanart (subfolder)/fanartX.ext Banner {name}-banner.ext  banner.ext Disc {name}-disc.ext  {name}-cdart.ext  disc.ext  cdart.ext Logo {name}-clearlogo.ext  clearlogo.ext  {name}-logo.ext  logo.ext Thumb {name}-thumb.ext  {name}-landscape.ext  thumb.ext  landscape.ext {name} represents the video file name, without extension. For videos that are not contained within their own folder, only the conventions using {name} are supported. For backdrops, X represents a number, and you can have any amount of numbered backdrops. For example: \Movies \300 (2006) backdrop.ext backdrop1.ext backdrop2.ext backdrop3.ext  As for Naming scheme that has changed over time and believe when Emby is saving it will only save as fanartx images now but will always read existing images. tanStaafl 14 Posted January 25 Author Posted January 25 Ok, got that, but all the movies I list in the image already had 3 backdrops.... riddle me that  example below.
Happy2Play 9780 Posted January 25 Posted January 25 Dev may need to see a server log for specific example but can say I don't see this behavior on my systems and all of them get images from third party manager and Emby reads them even though it is set to save them also. Do your backdrop images show up in image editor for any given example? 1 1
seanbuff 1313 Posted January 25 Posted January 25 @tanStaafldo you happen to have an external application also managing metadata for your media files?
tanStaafl 14 Posted January 26 Author Posted January 26 No, I use Emby only. I only pull down the images independantly.
tanStaafl 14 Posted January 26 Author Posted January 26 Happened again last night, Maximum backdrops set to 0, only Prmary, banner and logo are checked. Save to folder is on, and got this: I:\Movies\Absolution (2024)\fanart1.jpg - 01/26/2026 - 4:51:11 I:\Movies\Aliens vs Predator Requiem (2007)\fanart.jpg - 01/26/2026 - 4:51:11 I:\Movies\Battle at Big Rock (2019)\fanart.jpg - 01/26/2026 - 4:51:11 I:\Movies\Battleship (2012)\fanart.jpg - 01/26/2026 - 4:51:11 I:\Movies\Cliffhanger (1993)\fanart.jpg - 01/26/2026 - 4:51:11 I:\Movies\Coogan's Bluff (1968)\fanart.jpg - 01/26/2026 - 4:51:11 I:\Movies\Force of Nature (2020)\fanart.jpg - 01/26/2026 - 4:51:11 I:\Movies\Green Zone (2010)\fanart.jpg - 01/26/2026 - 4:51:11 I:\Movies\Highlander II The Quickening (1991)\fanart.jpg - 01/26/2026 - 4:51:11 I:\Movies\John Wick (2014)\fanart.jpg - 01/26/2026 - 4:51:11 I:\Movies\Jurassic Park (1993)\fanart.jpg - 01/26/2026 - 4:51:11 I:\Movies\Kandahar (2023)\fanart.jpg - 01/26/2026 - 4:51:11 I:\Movies\Shooter (2007)\fanart.jpg - 01/26/2026 - 4:51:11 Is it log time? Â and if so which one(s)?
Happy2Play 9780 Posted January 26 Posted January 26 (edited) To a point we may need to see the actual content of any of the examples you have shown above. As it is just guess work on why these are getting downloaded as the only guess would be Emby is not seeing the existing images. 25 minutes ago, tanStaafl said: Maximum backdrops set to 0, Also how many libraries do you have setup? Are there overlapping paths or assignment to more than one library? Startup Server log would show this. Edited January 26 by Happy2Play
tanStaafl 14 Posted January 26 Author Posted January 26 (edited) I have six (6) libraries if you count Collections. Only 1 (1) library is set to Movies. Emby is seeing the backdrops when you look at them in Edit Images, it shows them. I have attached my logs for your perusal. To be clear on my external program, it does not interact with Emby nor does it create or modify any of the metadata. It works with uTorrent (via web.ui) and handles RSS and downloads, moving, renaming and pulling down images from internet DB's. I began this program when Emby was Media Browser so it does/did do a lot of the work it didn't do. With the advent of Emby and all its functionality, everything but the RSS Manager, download processor and image downloader has been disabled. Thanks for all your time on this. it is appreciated, as is Emby. embyserver.txt embyserver-63904982400.txt Edited January 26 by tanStaafl

tanStaafl 14 Posted January 26 Author Posted January 26 21 hours ago, seanbuff said: @tanStaafldo you happen to have an external application also managing metadata for your media files? You asked about metadata, my app DOES NOT modify Emby metadata, it merely downloads images from TMDb, IMDb, TVDb and TVMaze. When Emby scans it picks up the images and modifies the metadata, not my app. And yes, I know Emby pulls images, I just never turned this off and it gives me a bit of control. 2 1

tanStaafl 14 Posted January 27 Author Posted January 27 LOL.. a screenshot of what exactly? Library? Fanart files downloaded? Sorry, not sure what you want
Luke 42077 Posted January 27 Posted January 27 The options that make you feel it should not have been downloaded.
tanStaafl 14 Posted January 27 Author Posted January 27 Well, not sute what I think is causing it, but here is the kitchen sink: SubDir of one of he affected videos List of my Libraries Various settings I 'think' should prevent such behaviour Thanks again for your time and help. For what it's worth, this isn't a major problem, just a nuisance. I wrote a subroutine to remove all fanart from all subs and it runs nightly now
