Unfortunately, while the hard failure is resolved, the new LG TV client fails to play content that it used to play with no issues, often requiring multiple playback correction requests to get it working, if at all.

The Roku client historically was much worse but now works better slightly ompared to the reduced functionality on LG WebOS TV.

2CH 24k PCM fails and must be transcoded to AAC.

1080p HEVC works but subs are mistimed. Second playback correction request starts  transcode to h264 which finally works.

On other videos, basic SUBRIP subtitles are not rendered properly.

Previously, most issues were with FLAC audio, but now multiple CODECs for multiple different stream types are broken.

Hi there, let's look at an example. Please attach the information requested in how to report a media playback issue. Thanks!

Let me start by saying That I appreciate the effort you put into these boards and helping people and providing support.  I've used Emby and been a paying customer for a very long time.

But given the recent hard failure and the fact that this client was working pretty well until the recent updates, I am not very inclined to go through and debug an implementation that is apparently not being tested and that may break again in the next release.

I tried 4 different video files and only 1 played back correctly on this client.  3 of the 4 played back without issue on the Roku client, which has frankly been one for the worst clients for Emby until now. I specifically avoided files using FLAC audio which has been a long known weakness.

These files pretty worked just fine previously and continue to work on other clients, especially the very reliable Android client.

But now, simple SUBRIP formats are not handled correctly.

Debugging multiple files takes significant effort on my part and you guys appear to even lack a platform to test on.

Just thinking about that frankly exhausts me. Especially since I have little confidence that any fixes are going to stick through subsequent releases without a regression platform.

Given the refresh rate, best case, I'm looking at over two months without a viable client on this platform.

It seems like my best option is to start looking at other clients or other platforms because the Emby LG TV support seems to have broken down.

My experience with LG is that it works with Google TV converter attached, otherwise the built in LG App failed multiple times for me with various LG models.  I have not done elaborate testing, nor attempted playback on a brand new LG model. My solution was to recommend the $20 Onn Google TV 4K adapter from Walmart.

I searched and found many people complaining about LG playback. This forum post goes into a lot of details.

I suspect that LG protects and limits 3rd party connectivity to safeguard their clients and avoid excessive support hours.  Why would LG pay support people to help connectivity to 3rd party media servers?  That makes no buiness sense.  I think they just lockdown access.  I am just guessing here.

The Android app is by far the more reliable.  Even the Android TV app was pretty bad, so they dropped it and merged support nto the base Android client.

The Roku client was pretty good a decade ago but has really declined over the last many years.  Up until recently, I've had much better results with the WebOS LG client, in addition to its much better UI design.

But it pretty clear that now there is essentially no testing or validation of the LG client, at least on the older LG models (2017 or so).

Client reliability is frankly the reason I have stuck with Emby for over a decade.  Especially since access to many of the clients is a paid premium service with Emby, it is pretty disappointing to see how little quality control they have in place. But things have gotten progressively worse for years now

HI, I apologize for the disruption. The subtitle issue that you are referring to has been resolved for the next release of the server. We'll be getting that out very soon. Thanks.

I had seen that mentioned in the other threads but I appreciate the update here.

Thanks!
