DLNA Player disappeared, not possible to "play on" Onkyo AVR DLNA Player

Hello,
I'm trying to play music from my music library with Emby on my Onkyo AV Receiver, which can act as a DLNA Player. This worked successfully since I started using Emby end of December, every day since the last 3 weeks. However, since yesterday I'm not able to find the target Onkyo DLNA Player in Emby to "play on" (I can see all other DLNA renderers/players in the list such as Sonos devices, Samsung TV etc.).

This worked successfully since I started using Emby end of December.

Source: Emby Server (using latest package from emby site) and Music Library are on a Synology NAS server connected to physical ethernet network. All latest updates installed.

Controller: various devices, via web browser or via iPhone/iPad app (from same network)

DLNA Player / Onkyo TX-RZ30: physically connected to same ethernet network.

This DLNA player can be found in the network and works with alternative controller  "Synology DS Audio" app where I can find it, select it and play music using Synology native DLNA server/controller (iPhone app) with selecting the Onkyo as DLNA player. But with Emby, the Player can not be found.

I have tried: Reset Onkyo AVR; reboot routers, access points, reboot Emby / NAS, switch temporarily to Wifi, back to Ethernet. De-install and re-install DLNA Plugin, check IP addresses.

It seems suddenly Emby is not finding the Onky Device any longer, in particular the DLNA Player.

Log file attached.

Thank you in advance

addendum: I can go to the menu of the Onkyo received and select as Music Server the emby server, and play music via DLNA that way (using Onkyo AVR as player and as controller). What stopped working is using the emby app (iphone/ipad) or emby integrated website (<local IP address of emby server:8096> via webbrowser) to select the Onkyo Receiver as "play on"  and to control music playing that way, as no longer appearing in the cast / "play on" list. Therefore, we have evidence that DLNA server (Emby) and DLNA player (Onkyo) are working just not appearing in the emby controller app/website.

I have a similar issue but all my DLNA devices disappeared :(  - unable to resolve at this point I'm afraid - see this thread in the Synology section.

Thank you @NevRimes, I hear (or read) your pain. I am running Synology DS224+ with DSM 7.3.2 - hence using 64bit  x86 emby package 4.9.3.0.

I looked at all recommendations from your thread such as ensuring all users have remote access enabled etc.

Based on the information in that thread, I am considering now a complete re-install of emby from scratch, unless there is any better way of approaching an "emby-reset".

Hi, are you still having an issue with this?

yes - still having the same issue. Meanwhile I re-installed emby from scratch on the Synology Nas, this did not help (using latest version). The Onkyo AVR is still not listed in the "Play To" list of devices in Emby. I'm able to use the Onkyo Controller to play music from Emby Server (DLNA) to the AVR (DLNA). But not Emby as controller.

In addition, I have an old, backup Synology NAS. I re-activated in parallel now and installed the old Version of emby that comes with the Synology Package manager.

Here, the Onky AVR is found and available to "play on" music via DLNA.

Here the Version infos of the backup / outdated NAS / Emby server:

  • Synology DS215+
  • DSM 7.1.1-42962 Update 9
  • CPU: ANNAPURNALABS Alpine AL212
  • Emby Version 4.7.14.0

So:

  • I have old NAS (DS215+) / Emby (4.7.14.0) installation available where Onkyo AVR is found as DLNA renderer where it works
  • I have current NAS (DS224+) / Emby (4.9.3.0) installation where the Onkyo AVR as DLNA renderer is missing and not found, where I have the current issue with.

I can share log-files from both to compare, any guidance please which log-files to share and what logging levels to activate?

The Onkyo AVR has IP address 192.168.111.18.

Searching for this IP address, no records in Embyserver.txt log on NAS (DS224+) / Emby (4.9.3.0) contain this IP.

Searching for this IP address, following records in the log on old/backup NAS (DS215+) / Emby (4.7.14.0) contain this IP:

4.9.3 broke my DLNA devices too in the same way :( . May be its something in the DLNA plugin which I think was upgraded from 1.5.3 to 1.5.4?  Is this a 3rd party plugin or Emby specific Luke?

Its great that you have 2 setups and can show that one works and the other doesn't on the same network at the same time :)

NevRims, you are right! I was fiddling around with the DLNA plugin, un-installing, re-installing, nothing helped. Finally, I was downgrading the DLNA plugin version, to V 1.4.0 (I tried 1.5.0 first, that did not help) and all my DLNA players re-appeared in the list. Strangely, when the server is rebooting, it seems Emby is then automatically "upgrading" back to the latest DLNA-Plugin version, so it does not stick with the downgraded version, and there is no option to prevent that.

To make the downgrade "stick", the only "hack" is to find the plugin dll file on the file server and make it read-only in the filesystem. However, at the moment, everything is working fine, even with DLNA plugin V1.5.4.

But I dare to re-boot the emby server now...

After Emby reboot (with DLNA plugin V1.5.4.) all DLNA players are still showing up. Marking this thread therefore as resolved for now.
