OSK won’t launch, just enters new line

Did you ever find a resolution for this? Mine has had this same issue for ages on the fireTV, but works just fine to launch the keyboard in all other apps I use and I’ve never had the same problem on our other 4K FireTV stick 2nd gen. I’m using the standard fireTV remote. Very, very rarely it works for a few days then it’ll be months with it broken to just start working again. I haven’t been able to find a reason why. It gives the blank line return in both the sign in input and the search input. I can only use the fireTV remote app to input text. 
 

Emby server is updated to version 4.9.3.0, fireTV OS 8.1.5.8, tried both Emby apps on the store (release date 4/26/2015 version 2.1.29a ASIN B00VVJKTW8, and release date 11/25/13 version 3.5.17 ASIN B00GVH9O0I).

I’ve cleared the apps cache, uninstalled and reinstalled the fireTV apps, factory restored the fireTV. Unsure what else I can try.

Do you have any other apps that have text entry fields in them? Do they work?

This would appear to be some sort of setting or perhaps plug-in/app on the device preventing the OSK.

All other text entry works as it should, both inside other apps and in the fire tv search itself. It’s only the Emby apps that are affected. 
 

I appreciate your time on this. 
 

edit: and the device doesn’t have anything side loaded or non standard in use. I factory reset it and downloaded the Emby app again and it still happened.

Sorry for the delay

Images below are the other app, first screen shot is the error I get when I click select/OK to launch the OSK at the login with the standard fire tv remote,

 

the second SS is after hitting select on the fire tv remote APP on my phone

and the third SS is the search function inside the app itself. 

I also did some more trial and error and found that the Spotify app is similar in that it won’t launch an OSK, but every other app I tried and the fire tv OS itself will do so just fine including Jellyfin. I’m unable to find any settings in the device that could account for this issue, I can’t manually change how the keyboard is displayed as far as I can see.

I think I figured it out. I am using a newer Fire TV stick with the remote from my old Fire TV stick. So I think it’s coming down to the programming where the key mapping for the select button with the new device and the old remote behave differently. I tried the old remote on the other working fireTV device and it did the exact same thing with the blank return line, but then with the correct new remote with the newer fireTV device that works just fine and the OSK opens.

 

this tracks with it working then not as it worked when I had the new device and new remote until the new remote broke then it stopped working again. Unsure why it didn’t work previously with the old fireTV and the old remote combo.
 

the model number of the remote it doesn’t like (printed behind the batteries) is R-NZ 201-180360.
