Extended edition, multipart. How to name files?

Recommended Posts

I have

'The Lord of the Rings The Fellowship of the Ring (2001) - Extended edition - part1.mkv'
'The Lord of the Rings The Fellowship of the Ring (2001) - Extended edition - part2.mkv'
'The Lord of the Rings The Fellowship of the Ring (2001).mkv'

in folder

'The Lord of the Rings The Fellowship of the Ring (2001)'

but the Extended edition is presented as "Extended edition - part1" with its own movie length, not the combined length.

What am I missing?

Likely this:

Split videos require all parts be in the same movie folder with no other videos present in that folder.

Not sure that multi-versioning and file stacking within same folder is currently supported - never tested that scenario.

What you could try is putting each version in it's own movie folder, they should still be merged together with library Multi-version item detection option enabled.

Do advise us of the result.

I tried putting part# before "Extended edition". No luck.

I moved the standard edition to another folder, no luck. Even removed the "Extended edition" from the name of part 1+2, luck.

Then I moved the standard edition off of my server, and removed the "Extended edition". Still only part showing up.

I tried changing to "Detect multi-version items based on files", still only part 1 showing.

I think I am missing something about naming parts. I tried "cd1", "cd2". No luck.

I read the provided link above, even before my first post. I made sure I am on the latest emby version, and I paid for emby, so I cannot see what I am doing wrong.

Thank for all the help.

Upon re-reading your original post, IIRC that's how multi-part items were always displayed: part1 details (codecs, duration) as the main details, and additional parts lengths underneath each thumb in the Additional Parts row.

@Lukemaybe in this scenario , item duration in the mediainfo row should show duration as all parts combined length?

I think it should match what you see when you click play in the video player, so I wouldn't want to do that unless we also have playback of the two combined.

It does somewhat make sense - but I can also see OP's point. Maybe some other scheme where total duration is also denoted, like 1:39:45 of 3:15:50 or 1:39:45 (3:15:50) or 1:39:45/3:15:50?

Yes, I also see part1 in the list and then the additional part below.

I still think there should be a nice way to have

1) movie

2) extended part 1

3) extended part 2

In the same folder, presented as "the movie itself" and "Extended edition" with a length of the combined parts.

Also, playback did not automatically continue from part 1 into part 2 with having to select it manually.

I am trying to use ffmpeg to splice part1+2...

Thanks for you input and insights.
