hetayy 3 Posted January 14 Posted January 14 I've found over time while using Emby that I'll go back to a series I had previously started and see that it shows I have not watched any of the episodes. Usually I chalk it up to misremembering when I last watched it and when I last re-setup Emby. I always suspected there was something suspicious, but I never caught it happening with something recently watched until now. Last night my roommate went to watch a show and their progress for the series they watched reset. They figured out where they left off and continued from there, but if I check on their account I can see the first episodes are all Unwatched, despite that they have indeed been watched. Is this an intentional function and too much to properly track, or is something going wrong with how Emby is processing watched/unwatched for me? I've attached my log, hopefully the proper one. In this instance the issue was noticed around 10:04 PM my time. I tried looking through the log myself, and aside from a few permissions issues that appear unrelated earlier in the day I'm not sure I saw anything significant. I didn't see anything relevant in the forums for this particular problem so I'm making a post. If I just searched improperly feel free to point me over. As an aside, I've also had, presumably separate, issues with episodes or movies I'm actively watching losing their place within the particular file if I leave and come back. This is also an inconsistent issue, neither issue happens regularly, I'll pause the show, close my tab, come back later that day, hit resume and it will just buffer endlessly. I go back to episode selection or the movie selection and my option to resume is replaced with Play as if I had not started that episode or movie. I assume this is unrelated as it's not losing my progress for the whole series, just the particular file I'm in. But figured I'd mention it while I'm here. I am using Linux: CachyOS, but I've seen both issues across multiple Linux distros over the years. embyserver-63903941126.txt
Luke 42077 Posted January 14 Posted January 14 HI there, can you please provide a specific example? How to Report a Problem Thanks !
hetayy 3 Posted January 15 Author Posted January 15 Yes! I have the relevant log attached as well. After reviewing the Activity view and talking with them directly I have a better timeline of events. My roommate tried to resume "2 Broke Girls" - S1, Ep10 - And the Very Christmas Thanksgiving at 9:28 PM. They had started the episode originally on 1/6. After hitting resume last night it buffered indefinitely, so they went back to the homepage from their bookmark, went into the TV library and hit play on the series. It then began playing S1, E1 and all of the episodes in between are no longer marked as watched. Afterwards they went back to episode selection and went back to episode 10 and it started playing from the beginning. They were then annoyed by this turn of events and changed to a different show which started up fine. So, I guess perhaps my two listed issues are possibly related. I'm not really sure what the log indicates, but the Activity View shows some of what happened as well. The bottom line being the oldest entry in the chain of events. ActivityView
hetayy 3 Posted January 29 Author Posted January 29 As there has not been any further request for additional information, or advice on what to look for myself, nor potential reasons this was occurring based on information already provided, I've switched over to Jellyfin. As mentioned I've seen shows reset my watch progress periodically over the years, across multiple computers and OS hosting Emby and had previously been writing it off as a fluke, or misremembering my own install timelines. (all Linux based, I don't use Windows anymore for anything). Up until making the switch however I did not see the watch progress for an entire series reset again, but did continue to regularly have playback issues on a per episode basis where it was required to restart episodes from the beginning as it would not resume playback from the previous position. Didn't happen all the time with every episode, but did not seem to matter which show. I hope the ghosts are beaten back sometime, and maybe someday I'll return to Emby. The feature set is overall more robust and I really enjoy how interactive you all are with the community. For now though I need reliability and I wasn't getting that. Entirely possible the issues were of my own making somewhere along the way somehow, but I was unable to find why it was occurring on my own.
Luke 42077 Posted 22 hours ago Posted 22 hours ago @hetayycan you please give it another try using the latest version? The most likely scenario is that it was mistakenly toggled on the series detail screen. The design of this screen shows information related to the current episode that you're watching, and we're seeing that some users click the functions on the screen expecting them to only apply to the episode and they end up applying to the whole series. This is something that we are working on improving. Thanks.
