All Tags are not found in music database

In my music database i use Tags. I use the progam MP3Tag to edit the music files and fill the tag file with data (TOP). The data did synchronize with Emby in the beginning but does not synchronize lately. In the beginning I could also edit Metadata of the song and edit the tag file with TOP. This was than synced with de file on my server. This is also not working anymore.

Is there a way to find in the log-files why it is not sync-ing anymore?
I have about 23000 music files and aprox. 1400 files have the tag filed with 'TOP'. Only 1200 files are found by Emby.

I have tested the following: put all 1400 files in a separate directory and put it in a new music database in Emby.
So every file has metadata tag filled. After scanning library in Emby only 1120 files with the tag are found in Emby.

Please help!

It shows only 1128 songs

Metadata Tags has 'Top2000'. I know every file in the directory has the Metadata Tag 'Top2000'  See screen:  MP3Tag. I also uploaded my log files..

I hope this is information is clear enough.

Hi, I'm thinking that the problem could be that you are trying to import the embedded audio tag "Top2000" from the Label field that you have set up in Mp3tag.

AFAIK, Emby does not import this tag/field and it doesn't correspond with an Emby database Song Tag. (How did you get this tag into Emby in the first instance??? - by editing the Songs in Emby?)

Anyway, one method to do what you want is to set up a new field in Mp3tag called ROONTRACKTAG. (This should correspond to the Songs "Tag" field in Emby). Then, in Mp3tag, bulk copy your "Top2000" tag from the existing Label field to ROONTRACKTAG. Then rescan (and/or Refresh metadata) of the Songs in Emby to import the tags you require.

Further to this, there isn't really any two-way sync between Emby and Mp3tag (or any other tagging editor) if that is what you are trying to do. Updates in Emby only modify the Emby database, not your embedded audio tags. A good working process is to always update embedded tags in Mp3tag first and then import into Emby (for those fields that Emby accepts).

See how you go with this? Feel free to ask more questions if I haven't explained well enough. Cheers!

Thanks for the response. In december 2024 I found that filling the metadata field 'ContentGroup' (See:

Was connected to 'Tags' in Emby. Than it did sync two ways. From the music file to Emby and from Emby to the music file. I only read en edit the music files with mp3tag because i could edit multiple music files in one time. Further mp3tag is is easier to use. So it worked in december 2024. Since december 2025 I noticed that de field is not read by Emby anymore in the field 'tag' and vice versa. After I discovered this I manually fill the metadata in Emby and manually in mp3tag. But is not convenient.

I will try you solution 'ROONTRACKTAG' and report back my findings.

Your suggestion to sync is exactly what i want so if your solution works this is how I will work. Again till beginning 2025 it worked as I described above.

Thanks for now

Thank for the answer. I will look into it. But this is a mayor change since januari 2025. I don't understand why. What is used TAGS in Emby for.
I used it specifically because for me this way is works like a smart playlist. A playlist build on data filled in de metadata.

I did some checking on you remark. I do not find Top2000 in the field Studios. If I try to fill the field Studios in Emby the field stays empty even after twice save

'Opslaan' (dutch) = 'Save' (english). So this is a bug in the system.

Just for my own curiosity (and ongoing learning) I've been experimenting a bit more.... (FLAC files)...

  • Adding a non-standard "Label" field to Mp3tag automatically mirrors any existing "Publisher" embedded tag that an audio file already contains (I didn't know this until now).
  • Adding a non-standard "Studio" field to Mp3tag doesn't mirror "Publisher".
  • When scanning the parent folder, Emby doesn't fetch "Publisher" or "Label" or "Studio" for importing into a Song's "Studios" metadata or "Tags" metadata.
  • Using ROONTRACKTAG will import tags into an individual Song's "Tags" field in Emby (I wanted to double check!!!).
  • ROONTRACKTAG is multi-field - more than one tag can be imported (much like Genres).

Anyway - I'll be interested to see how you get on with ROONTRACKTAG...

@user24I did the Roontracktag and am amazed. It worked well. Changing data with MP3tag and then scan the labrary in Emby and the field is filled. Thanks for the suggestion.
The Publisher field was a comment to @Lukewho suggested this.

Using tag GROUPING does the same thing too.

HI, no, the parsing of the Label has been this way for a long time.

@scrabdip Hi again, I don't have a "Top2000" Songs Tag grouping like you do, but I do have a "Top100" Artists Collection in Emby.  I couldn't just create this completely in Mp3tag and import it into Emby, so it took a while to set up, but it's now very useful for me. One aspect I have set up (with Mp3tag) you may be interested in for your "Top2000", so I will share it with you...

I add an emoji suffix 💯 in Mp3tag (which imports into Emby) so I can always see which Artists are in this Collection from any page view. Here's a couple of examples:

image.png.cf2aac61f3192763022907686182aa96.pngimage.png.2fe003b2b331a3b8c6afdb374b2892b9.png

You could quite easily do something similar for your Top2000 Songs (if you wanted to) to make them distinctive from all your other songs?

image.png.cb8023a145765116b60ea89d246460ff.png

I used 🔝 for this example, but you could use 🏆 or anything that suits?

Just use the Actions function in Mp3tag:

  • Actions
  • Actions (Quick)
  • Format value
  • Field: TITLE
  • Format string: %title% 🔝

No bother at all if you are not interested in this.  Cheers!
