This started awhile back. It was a hit and miss.. but now!! I can never stop it from direct playing.

Settlings on TVS. Sticks, roku, android.. all Direct play.. some live TV channels I have do 1080 at 20mb CBR and most VIZIO TVs can not and will not play it, but it forces direct play and will not stop.

Just tried setting up a new person tonight and none of the clients ROKU settings stopped the direect play and does not play most live channels.  Lowing MB no change, dissable the direct play in settings.. no effect.  set user max rate to 5 and it still direct plays and refuses to lower or transcode.

Some devices if i can get it to transcode, the stats for nerds no longer changes with the correct values.

Server info on the stream sometimes also is incorrect... but picture quality sometimes changes, if and when it does not direct stream.. but sometimes impossible?

Sometings not right...

is the a wide isssue, or should i pull the log for this. being i know the round about time and username of the person tonight..

Hi.  Any chance you disabled transcoding/remuxing on your server?

What will that do if I can not get it to transcode anyways?

Just direct plays all the time regardless of detected bit rate of the direct stream..

I do not believe the setting is backwards.

Edit: sorry read your message wrong. No sometimes randomly rate cases it will transcode, usually on recordings or movies.

Can you please ensure you have not disabled any of these for the user in question?

They are all just like the photo you sent.

I wouldn't say I'm an expert emby server, but I did check the settings before creating the post ;)

Thanks for checking. This is an old 5+ year server. I am a old time programmer and manual code converter. I am a 26 years of electronic repair at a shop. ;)

It's pretty simple I got it at the very top.

Example on Roku Smart TV using the emby app.

I connect the server enter my username password.

I tried to play a 1080-20 megabit stream, it refuses.

In the past I used to be able to limit the user to seven or eight megabits and force it to transcode and it would work. Now it just direct streams and fails.

Same thing with the Vizio Smart TV using Chromecast,

I use my phone make sure it's connected to the proper Wi-Fi, select a little box at the top, select living room TV, Chromecast loads on tv, I then find a channel, example 1080-20 MB stream fails... I myself to limit seven or eight megabits just like I used to do in the past with Roku smart TVs, and it fails.. regardless of what settings I put, it always strict streams and never trans codes.

However if I select a channel that does play at a lower bit rate, I can then manually select while it's playing a different bit rate and at that point it will change picture quality. But the stats for nerds doesn't change and tell me what is going on.

Like I said I am happy to pull my log pile with the time and username from yesterday.

I don't care too much about the Chromecast but I'm positive that if the Roku problem gets fixed the Chromecast should probably also be fixed.

So then I go to my Nvidia stream box, guess what, it don't matter what settings I select the stats for nerds never changes and it still says I'm direct streaming.

So then I load up the older emby Android app on my NBA stream box because it used to work on that app... But now that's got the same problem too.

I cannot turn off direct streaming regardless of what settings did I put.

I went into all the previous devices I just mentioned and turned off direct streaming in the settings of the device, it still direct streams on all the devices I tested.

So I don't know, it don't matter what bit rate I slept under the 20 megabit from the original IPTV stream, it thinks it can play it it does it anyways regardless if it fails or not.

I'm not sure how much more detail I can go in this if you can't understand what's going on maybe it should be bumped. Yes I do have my transcoding settings all turned on.

This only happens with live IPTV streams, any recordings and movies seem to transcode just fine.

Yes, please provide an example with appropriate log files as outlined in that topic.

Thanks.

What type of Tuner do you have?  I may have missed it.

scott46953

i have 2 unused tuners they are no longer on the server,  as stated i am using iptv m3u.

I have 3 iptv providers loaded. unused channels are clipped from all providers.

I do have a custom built DTV lineup that uses the 20mb iptv server. it is labled S1 before the channel name. then others are also labled S2 and S3.  Providers 2 and 3 are mostly lower bit rates but still 1080 simlar picture as the 20mb cbr provider.

maybe this info will help when looking at the log file.

also if you see anything that causes my server to stall or pause for any time 1-20sec or more. I have an open post for that issue.  However it is mostly resolved.

Ok, thank you for clarification.  I will be unable to contribute as I have no IPTV.  I assumed Live TV meant local tuners such as HDHOMERUN or PCI cards with Antenna locally.

Exiting gracefully....

I miss using my HDhomerun quad and my HDhomerun4k quad tuners.

I have them still on the local network, but when I moved my server to the other side of the county for direct Fiber line there... the antenna tower sits too close to a cell phone tower.

I have tried 600 filters. double filters. helps a little but even with the best antenna it was no longer stable. so i had to pull the setting from emby server. sucks.

the tuners in the home run boxes are not good with amplifiers or interference.  but thanks for the try and the missed memory. now i pull all the locals from the IPTV m3u providers and program the channel numbers to mimic the hdhomerun lineup.  the DTV m3u is a private custom programmed by me that pulls full guide without any issues using provider 1 (s1) and labled DTV before channel names.

There must be 250 log files in that zip...  so hard to diagnose except that the two random ones I opened both had this:

HTTP error 403 Forbidden

Which would indicate a permissions issue at your provider.

Posted

Hi, yes why is your provider sending back a 403 forbidden error?

maybe someone that selected a channel not working

the time would be between 9pm and 10:15pm

user name carolec

She was using ONN branded ROKU on board.

However she was instructed to get a 4k version of the ROKU HDMI or 4k Firestick.

sorry trying to give as much details as possible

did some testing today.. I was wrong about the IPTV provider that has the playing issue on ROKU and ChromeCast..

It may or may not br 20mb CBR

It supports Adaptive Bitrate Streaming (ABR)

It is 8 to 20mb mostly 20mb 1080 HLS and HLS is CBR or ABR from what google is saying..  so the other 2 IPTV providers I have are not HLS and the do play fine on both ROKU and ChromeCast

So,, should I reprogram my DTV lineup with none HLS providers?  this could take a few hours of work or more.

or is the an update that could fix this issue?

scott46953

Get this... but then the same person With Ruko that can not play some or all of the HLS IPTV streams from my #1 provider...but she can play a recorded/comskipped/Converted HLS to HEVC 1080 1mb and the server says this...

Stream
MPEGTS (710 kbps)
HLS (2 mbps)
Converting to compatible container
Video
1080p HEVC
Direct Play
Audio
English AC3 5.1

Did you track down the reason for the 403?

scott46953
Posted (edited)

do not need help with the 403, the topic is Live TV Always Direct Plays.

Is the issue not showing the the log files?

I dont want to spend much more time in here, if nobody can identify the issue with the log files.

how do you trouble shoot the beta if this is not seen? i dont understand what is going on here.

do you need more information?  the username was carolec between 9pm and 10:15pm

all the rest should be time stamped and lined up very easy. i have already narrowed it down to possible IPTV HLS

but i could be wrong

If i am playing a channel, same channel under scott46953 user name, and carolec fails to play... I already have a channel stream open. so emby will not open another stream. it is already a running stream.  the 403 has nothing to do with receiving the channel of carolec ROKU direct play issues.

any other 403 would be a fault of not my control.

send me a pm or something private, and i'll strip the temp stuff, and 7z the whole thing.

You run it and tell me what its doing.  I cant make it any easier then that.

Hi.  The problem is you gave us like 200 log files and most of them are in that time period due to these 403 errors.

If you can reproduce your issue and isolate it to just the relevant logs, it will be much easier for us to diagnose.

Thanks.
