I don't know how or why but if I go to view the TV Series genres, genres appear that don't exist and if I go inside they are empty. How can I delete and not show these?
Thank you

@Hispanico957do you see a play button when you mouse over the empty genre?

If you do you can see that the playing episode has genre in metadata.

I suspect that Emby for some reason has started to import genre's from single episodes.

Devs would need to answer that 😉

But I went into every episode and removed genres from them.

That fixed it for me, I have not seen the issue after.

TBH it was a lot of work.

Clicking play on genre, to see what episode to edit.

Just to chip in. I also noticed that problem that some empty genres are generated and even random episodes/series are played when right-clicking Play on that folder. It is probably because episodes within the series have that genre listed and not the series itself. To help my locate that files I wrote a python script that scans your library nfo and list all nfo's that has given genre. In my case, that was 'Sci-Fi'. I have also 'Science Fiction' and 'Sci-Fi & Fantasy' but the 'Sci-Fi' folder was empty but present. What I did was find the episodes with that tag and added 'Sci-Fi' to the series itself so it would not be empty. Still a bug, but worked around it. Here is the script.scifi.py

Assuming you're on PC and have Python installed... you just double click the file and in prompts you to choose the folder to scan. You pick i.e. TV Series folder and it scans all nfo files in this folder and it's subfolders and list all nfo files that have Sci-Fi genre set (it does not modify anything, it just print you a list in Terminal/PowerShell  window with all nfo files.

If you care to look for other genres you just have to change this part in the script to your liking

TARGET_LINE = "<genre>Sci-Fi</genre>"

Hope this helps. As I said, for my TV show library of around 16.000 files it took less than a minute to find all nfo with specified genre.

from: TARGET_LINE = "<genre>Sci-Fi</genre>"

to: TARGET_LINE = "<genre>Biografo</genre>"

these are some addons to basic python, you probably should just install it with this command in Terminal:

py -m pip install tqdm colorama

or

python -m pip install tqdm colorama

C:\Users\Marco\Desktop>python -m pip install tqdm colorama
Defaulting to user installation because normal site-packages is not writeable
Requirement already satisfied: tqdm in c:\users\marco\appdata\roaming\python\python312\site-packages (4.67.1)
Requirement already satisfied: colorama in c:\users\marco\appdata\roaming\python\python312\site-packages (0.4.6)

In majority the script run very well but for certain genres not show the file .nfo... in my case Sci-Fi, run script not find anything but the genres is present.

So i must click on play to see which SerieTv is

Strange since exactly 'Sci-Fi' is what works for me. Maybe it's a matter o casing? The script is case sensitive. Or maybe spaces or dash?

But after editing the .nfo file, do you have to lock the series to prevent the metadata from updating?
Should the lock be green or black?

Thank

Hispa

P.S.

I hope STAFF FIX IT as soon as possible because It's really time consuming and tedious to sort out all the nfo files. wrong

If you edit genre in emby itself I believe it locks itself automatically and stays that way. If you edit nfo manually I think you need to run either Scan Library or Scan Metadata Folder but this will not lock the genres and will change should you ever hit refresh metadata for this series (or had it set to refresh i.e. every month in library settings). What I did, i didnt delete unnecessary genres one by one, i just added the given genre (Biography or Sci-Fi) tp the show that had at least of it's episodes under that genre. Believe it was much faster that way.
