subtitle standard setting

will there ever be the possibility to choose the download srt sub as standard? or will I have to choose it manually forever?

that's not so much fun with a show of 20min episodes..

in terms of logic that setting should be the most obvious and used, in case someone is downloading subs (maybe even via emby!! )

What do you mean by that exactly?

Have you set the scheduled  task to download subs?

What provider?

Have you setup provider in your library?

hey thanks for fast answer?

what exactly should I describe better? I have the following sub settings. none of them is giving me my srt sub (which is by the way always the last in the list which is also fun if you have 20 or 30 subs..)

standard

intelligent

hearing impaired

always

no subs

I'm not using emby for downloading my subs

You'd need to provide specific example - wild guess is your subs are not named properly-tagged with language code, preventing Emby to implement any selection logic.

Anyway, without specifics it's guesswork only.

Hmm does RTM (Real Time Monitorering) not see the subs added?

How do you add subs?

As Grim says.

We need to know your setup for getting subs.

And logs from adding them.

this topic can be - according to my experience - replicated with any given example in my 30tb library.

here is the example I'm struggling with today. every new episode starts with the English sdh sub. not with my srt sub. I hate embedded subs and I hate sdh subs.

my settings is standard (or any other no difference my srt is ignored)

the srt even has a default in the name and emby is calling it standard... oh my..

I that case you need to strip the embedded subs, os you only have the ones you want.

Emby will not strip them for you.

I use Tdarr to precure my media files.

Tdarr

But Emby will show embedded subs first, as they are considered to match media files, sync wise.

Where srt can be wildly out of sync with audio.

?? sorry this is the worst answer. and the most unlogical.

1. I'm keeping them, you never know.

2. 30tb how much fun.

3. choosing the standard default external sub, that was download to use it, should be possible as standard with a player.

4. with every other player like kodi on a ugoos or zidoo or shield + jellyfin I don't have that topic. they see the external even without default in the name, and they of course use it

5. the srt subs are much more in sync! and they have a better look and line breaking and are smaller and they don't have all the unneeded text for sounds

Hi.  Can we please look at a specific playback example?  The server should actually prioritize external subs - all other things being equal - but we need to see the specifics.

For instance, are any of your internal subs ALSO marked default (standard)?

P.S. I believe "Standard" is a translation...

hi ebr can you scroll up a bit I've send an example I'm currently watching. the other subs (or in this case only one single other sub) don't have any default or standard in the name as long as I can see it. what else to provide? thanks!

You might have better success with the smart subtitle mode.

I've tried. the explanation of smart is, it's depending on audio language? I'm having English audio.

but will try again! you mean In the lg / android app or the server settings?

In your user preferences.

Smart isn't going to work for him.  He wants the subs even though the language is English.  It seems "Default" should work for him - IF his externals are the only ones that are marked that way.

P.S. I'm finding this is common with today's younger folks.  They all appear to watch with subs on all the time.

English is not my first language. and with 46 I wouldn't say I'm very young. young yes... :)

yep, smart isn't working next episode startet without subs.

So back to my original question, will there ever be a setting like 'always use external if available' or 'prefer srt'

thanks. happy Sunday

Or perhaps to treat external subtitles as default.
