This new view really sucks ball. Whoever designed it should be taken out and thrashed. It was bad enough when it was only for single season episodes but I see it now applies to everything. I really really really don't understand how you people intentionally screw up anything that works. Unreal.

Hi, have you explored your Emby user display settings?

It is an option, set it according your preference under your user's Display preferences.

I get it but a little heads up might of been nice other than a popup in the middle of the afternoon that a new version was installed. Reminds me of Cool Hand Luke...... What we have here is a failure to communicate.

Don't know from which server version you've updated (and to which one), but that option has been implemented for over a year now, with the release of 4.8+ version, you likely just haven't stumbled upon it till now.

I also got hit by this after Emby automatically updated to v4.9.3.0 from v4.9.1.90 overnight.

While this may have been added to v4.8, it wasn't forcefully changed like this update has. The v4.9.3.0 update reset my view to Show all episodes of all seasons together when it was never like that previously (Was previously Show all episodes for only single season shows, which is how I like it).

I too found this confusing and frustrating until I found this thread as I was also coming to complain. I'm guessing the update either did not properly respect prior preferences or it has now decided this setting is the default and just set it. Either way, it's poor and I also now have to undo it for all of my users, as my other users won't be aware where this option is.

bloody awful, lucky it is a setting hey, I wonder if we could get such a setting that we don't have to enable a radio button EVERY SINGLE TIME we want to search for missing episodes?

true, how the hell did it end up default for all users?

It's because most modern streaming apps nowadays don't make you click through a season layer.

so your making **** decisions by just copying others then, fair enough.

where can we find this default for all users, or did you just force it in the update?

I'm not sure what kind of attitude that is. My streaming ecosystem is Emby and that's essentially all we use, so I couldn't give a rat's about what Netflix does.

Clearly this attitude means you intentionally forced this behaviour on users for whatever reason, yet it's clearly missing from the release notes:

Quote
- Add user option to set user's auto remote quality
- Add library option to use legacy folder scanning method
- Music transcoding fixes
- Add landing tab option for book libraries
- Support volume control with youtube trailer player
- Update mixed content tabs to combine Movies & Shows
- Fix maintenance mode blocking some settings screens
- Fix embedded audio fields not getting rescanned on file changes
- Fix loss of genre and collection images after deleting a movie

Nowhere there does it say you've changed this behaviour and nowhere is it made easy to revert for all users, hence this thread.

I fail to see how you feel this:

image.thumb.png.2020f1b1085181e24709cfaef505a5d2.png

is a better experience than this:

image.thumb.png.509411f981f1df60cba2a901959cc9d1.png

Especially with that tiny Season 3 drop-down which is so easy to miss and obliterates the pretty season cover art many of us curate.

It's worse with a mouse. If I want to look at all episodes in Season 4, in the old view, I click Season 4 then I can scroll with my mouse. I can't scroll with my mouse with this new behaviour and instead must click, click, click all the way to what I want.

Considering how you seem to approach most feedback in these forums, I don't expect you to revert this unwelcome behaviour and will have to suck it up. I will, however, request you be more upfront next time and include major forced behavioural changes in the release notes so we're aware of it. Ideally, there should be a way for users (not Luke et al.) to apply our standard configuration to all users as well, without having to sign into each user account individually.

it is called my way, or the highway.

I'm sorry for the mixup. The intention was not from a forcing standpoint but more of a modernizing one.

so every emby user got "modernised" if they like it or not? seems fairly deliberate to me.

Is there at least a way to revert all users?

It updated to 4.9.3.0 on 01/09/26 from 4.9.1.90 on 11/11/25. I promise you the Seasons were shown individually up to then. I work on it 8-10 hours a day 7 days a week. You guys should be paying me I'm on it so much. It looks like I'm not the only one to get blindsided.

Yes go to users.

image.thumb.png.49993caa66f5e92da0d2555c91fbf709.png

Click on user to edit.

Then click marked in red.

Click marked in red.

image.png.a409a7d6c4d5474b89079eca37d03860.png

Click and select "Always show season folders".

Thank you, Neminem. Much easier than signing in as the user. Still annoying but manageable.

I thought it was "Show all episodes only for single season shows".

Not sure why this only affected a select few as this setting has been in place for quite some time.  As I have not seen any user settings reset.

It was. That's how I had it and all of my other users on my Emby server had it. I also have another server which was a clone, albeit made years ago, which was also configured this way and every user on it was also changed to Show all episodes of all seasons together (previously Show all episodes only for single season shows).

Now, I don't believe I actively chose Show all episodes only for single season shows, rather, I accepted it when it was made the default (whenever that was) and left it as I felt that was good. It wasn't until v4.9.3.0 where this changed to Show all episodes of all seasons together for every user on both of my servers.

Maybe because we didn't actively select it, its state was stored internally as null or something, thus, the user hasn't chosen so fall-back to the system default, which prior to v4.9.3.0 was Show all episodes only for single season shows to now become Show all episodes of all seasons together?

As a test, I created a new user on v4.9.3.0 and the default selection for that user (having not copied it from another user when creating) is: Show all episodes of all seasons together.

Well, at least there is an option to revert the setting...  I ended up here by searching for how to roll back the update, because I *really* don't like having to have the seasons displayed that way.

Isn't this only an issue for NEW users as that is the default?

image.png.e4951292914e0b0f8f92b0bb66404001.png

As all my users were changed to "Always show Season Folders" back when this setting was introduced in 4.8.0.29.
