Peter Nent 71 Posted December 30, 2025 Posted December 30, 2025 (edited) Currently, I'm running Emby WMC ui on a Windows 11 i7 NUC on a what older Sony Bravia tv. Buying a new tv is an option, but choosing which platform (Tizen (Samsung) of WebOS (LG) is difficult for me, as I would like to run Emby WMC on that platform instead of on a seperate NUC-Win11 system. Could you please advise which platform is running Emby WMC the best/fastest/flex on ?, or should I stay with Win11 (on a i7-NUC) as platform ? Thanks & best regards, Peter Edited December 30, 2025 by Peter Nent 1
softworkz 5065 Posted January 6 Posted January 6 @Peter Nent Since Emby have let pass the opportunity of integrating WMC into the regular apps and since it appears to be quite difficult to bring an app into the Tizen store, I would rather consider Tizen as a dead end right now. Also, we would probably have to disable some of the visual effects due the the graphics of the TV hardware not being powerful enough for all of them.. I don't know much about the LG side, but the performance issue would very likely apply there as well. All in all, I would rather stick with the NUC or a powerful(!) Android TV device like Nvidia Shield. 1
Peter Nent 71 Posted January 6 Author Posted January 6 Dear Luke and Softworkz, First of all, Happy New Year, Wishing you a joyful and prosperous New Year filled with love, laughter, and unforgettable moments! Many thanx for your (@Softworkz) response to my question. Yesterday, I gave my 'own eyes' the choice to look at the different brands at a local Mediamarkt store, comparing Q-LED, MiniLED and OLED of LG, Samsung, Sony, etc., but focusing on an OS used by these brands in a store is 'not done'.... they simply cannot help you on these (technical) matters.... The argument you are using is of course very important: the graphical power of the internal CPU/GPU of these TV's is somewhat limited, although the latest generation of TV's is also using the latest generation of CPU's.... My strategy will be, that I'm going to buy a 65" Samsung high-end S95F series AND stay with my NUC/Win11 and compare these with each other .... of course, I'll report my findings here in this forum. Anyhow, many thanks for your responses, I'll report my findings as soon as I've compared them! Grtz. Peter 2
SikSlayer 249 Posted January 6 Posted January 6 I do have an LG CX OLED (2020) and so I have interest and desire to see it on that platform. I selected it not only because of its display abilities, but also because of its codec support, which is near perfect, except for the nagging lack of DTS, even passthrough. I think it SHOULD be able to handle WMV UI well, I've sideloaded Kodi into it in the past, and it ran amazingly well and smooth. That is the only evidence I have to my bias that the LG WebOS platform might be able to do so.

SikSlayer 249 Posted January 6 Posted January 6 argh, I can't get the web browser to connect to my local PC, from either https://softworkz.github.io/wmc3/#!/home or https://wmc.emby.media/app/#!/home But I gotta admit, the page is moving VERY smoothly, much unlike the cheap $50 Android TV device I tried, which inspires confidence.

SikSlayer 249 Posted January 7 Posted January 7 The problem is, after entering the pin, which it accepts, then I have to enter the IP local number or hostname, and the port being the default 8096, I get a connection failure.
softworkz 5065 Posted January 7 Posted January 7 Which PIN? If it's an Emby user PIN, you are already connected - it should not ask for anything. Besides - maybe the TV has some port restrictions - you could try to change Emby Server to server on port 80...

I'll try that late night when the server isn't being used. But I think what I'm seeing even now proves to me the performance. And remember, this is a 2020 model.

softworkz 5065 Posted January 7 Posted January 7 (edited) With localhost, you need to use the WMC app from https: - with IP address - and from the TV, you need to use http://wmc.emby.media (no https) - did you try that? Edited January 7 by softworkz
SikSlayer 249 Posted January 7 Posted January 7 I recorded a video, gonna cut it down to 720 or 1080p, and then post it. Hopefully it helps.
softworkz 5065 Posted January 7 Posted January 7 Thanks a lot for the video. The missing images are a typical symptom for when you run the app from https and the server is http only. The actual answer regarding performance is still open, because without images, there's no much to do in composition. 1
