Getting black screen anytime I try to play anything android TV

If I turn the premiere on on the server, my Emby works. But when I turn it off, it tries to play, but it just goes to a black screen, and then eventually goes back to the main Emby screen. 
 

This is one of my friends. Mine is working fine premiere on or off because I paid for the app. He paid for the app back before you couldn’t do it anymore.

Hi.  What device is this?

It is failing to get the display modes available.  If you turn off match frame rate and match resolution, does it work?

Why would it play only when the premier is turned on? 
Let me have him turn those off

I cannot answer that.  Could be a red herring.

Has he tried restarting everything?  Android Device, TV, receiver, whatever?  An internal Android function that cannot return null appears to be returning null.

Also, pretty sure the standard app wouldn't have this particular problem so he can try installing that.
