playback will result in a black screen with audio until device restart

it seems this issue isn't isolated to just Apple TV. I just started experiencing this on my Android phone in the Android app. It just started happening to me for the first time 2 days ago, and I've never seen it or encountered it before, having used Emby on multiple devices and multiple device types (Android, webOS, Amazon Echo Show, FireTV) for a year. Nothing I do, including rebooting, or killing the app, or updating the server (I'm now on the latest server version) seems to have any effect, it's always black now; all videos, even live TV.

What can I do to help?
