Viewerman 2 Posted December 29, 2025 Posted December 29, 2025 I am new to Emby (starting to feel like a former Plex user). I am using a new M4 Mac mini, 32TB RAM, 1TB hard drive, and an attached 2TB Ugreen dock. The setup went fine. Everything seems to work, but I am having trouble setting up file appearance, and I can't find any articles or blogs that reference the problem I've encountered. Since I originally was using Plex, all my files DVD files were created in MP4 format only. All extras are labeled with their correct Plex extensions. Now, once these files were brought into Emby, particularly the movie files, when I view them under the MOVIES menu, I see both the movies and extras together, and in many cases, movie titles with quotation marks around them. Some of the extras have dropped their extensions. When I look under FOLDERS, the titles are in caps, I am assuming that's because all my movie folders are in caps with the year in brackets. Inside the folders are the movie file and extras if present. I am not crazy about seeing all caps on the folders, but I can live with them since I sense this might only change if I rename all my movie files. Is there a way to remove the extras from the MOVIE menu view, though? I'd like to just see only the movies with their years, nothing else and also remove those quote marks. Also, on a few popular movies, like for example, "Batman Returns", metadata doesn't seem to be working or found, is that a common issue? (I've attached a few images)

Viewerman 2 Posted December 29, 2025 Author Posted December 29, 2025 Thanks for responding Luke. I've attached two screen grabs, one showing the quotes and extras on the MOVIE menu. The second is from a collection I created on Tom Hanks. This is how I would like to set up the MOVIE menu: just the posters, no grey on the sides, and no extras.
Neminem 1518 Posted December 29, 2025 Posted December 29, 2025 Here you go try moving your batman-featurette to a sub folder, As described here Movie Naming | Emby Documentation 1
Happy2Play 9780 Posted December 29, 2025 Posted December 29, 2025 (edited) Yes as I don't believe the -extras naming works for Movies only Episodes. And in your case it did not multi-version as file name did not show folder name. Not sure on the Quotes as it appears metadata related per your images as Emby would appear to not have any. @Lukeshould/could this be added to movies? Obviously trailer has always applied. KB only applies to TV episode sub-folders. It is also possible to add the type of extra as filename suffix extensions, as for the following: -behindthescenes -deleted -featurette -interview -other -scene -short -trailer Guess the issue becomes the Multi-versioning rule / similarities. Each version must begin with the folder name, followed by " - ". Edited December 29, 2025 by Happy2Play

Not sure what happened the first time (might have been a typo) but it worked. @Viewermanyou need to ensure filename match folder then add -featurette otherwise they remain separate items as you have seen. 1
Viewerman 2 Posted December 30, 2025 Author Posted December 30, 2025 I've begun removing those quotes manually. That's going to be a project for a couple of days, and I'll also create subfolders for all the extras. The movie names match their folder names, as shown in the screenshot above. I assume there's no way to change the image dimensions on the MOVIE menu from horizontal to a vertical poster with no grey on the sides, correct?

No the view uses Poster images. Only way to correct the issue is ensure the content has the appropriate images. Or should say a majority rule as if everything only has posters it will be poster and anything different will attempt to make whatever image you have fit within that placeholder just like your first image with a poster in a landscape placeholder. Emby will not mix placeholder sizes. For the web client you can use custom css to make the placeholder transparent but will not work in any other client. /*Make card placeholder background transparent*/ button.cardContent-background, div.defaultCardBackground { background-color: transparent; } 7 hours ago, Viewerman said: I've begun removing those quotes manually. Correcting the name removed the "featurette" from being shown as a movie also, correct? Still have no idea what is causing the quotes in the display name. Edited December 30, 2025 by Happy2Play
Viewerman 2 Posted December 31, 2025 Author Posted December 31, 2025 (edited) @Happy2Play@Luke@Neminem Thanks, I've begun adding the folders for the extras and will start updating the poster afterwards. Hopefully, the majority of poster images will force the format change in appearance, as you've mentioned. And manually remove those quotes. I won't be totally giving up on Plex just yet, though. It has its problems, but out of the gate, the setup appearance works for me. Hopefully, with some time, Emby will win me over. Edited December 31, 2025 by Viewerman 1 1
