njmckenzie96 3 Posted January 13 Posted January 13 (edited) Super happy with Emby so far. Been using it for about a year. I came from jellyfin, but ultimately I couldn't stand how slow their apps were, and how bad video playback was with larger files. Metadata handling for movies was also atrocious. Tried out emby and immediately switched over. It just works and works well. Improvements I'd like to see: Roku apps need an overhaul with sign in. The sign in process makes no sense and is so difficult to locate what fields it wants you to answer plus you can't even read the whole word for username or password. I've set up multiple Roku with emby and have tried walking through with family members and it's always been very difficult. I'm mostly on Chromecast though and that works well. But still annoying that there appears to be no way to sign in from app. Sign in, in general. Idk if I'm missing something but I shouldn't have to enter all the details in for the server. Jellyfin just gives you a QR code to scan and accept it in the app. Easy. I can never ever get the emby account sign in to work and always have to put full details in (server and username). This is especially annoying with getting family members in that are less tech savvy. Again, I could somehow be missing something... But I use this stuff all the time. It should be easy, and I'm a developer struggling with it lol. Updated themes for emby. Still feels very old. I like the apple one but it's too bright so always on dark. The others just look too old. Windows app especially (very slow and logo feels like it's 2003). I get this one is subjective lol. Edited January 13 by njmckenzie96

Even the Emby website feels outdated and even has very old screenshots 1
IAmHugh 63 Posted January 13 Posted January 13 Yes Jellyfin isn't the prettiest app but it loads far faster on the TV than Emby, content in the Jellyfin TV app loads almost instantaneously, Jellyfin is up and running after giving it your info far far far fast than Emby. Now that said their metadate engine can use some work. I have more than a few shows, TV specials, movies that Jellyfin doesn't want to play nice with verses maybe a dozen items Every fresh Emby install.

It would have to be with themes like njmckenzie96 said if it was to change. Would love better themes or even better the possibility to make custom themes. Also Emby feels a little too closed, opening it a little would allow for a lot of new fun plugins. Edited January 13 by yocker 1
cptlores 40 Posted January 13 Posted January 13 No policy groups for users, and having to select and change user settings for each user one at a time is a major achievement! 2

Most clients / server features don't allow to customize almost anything. When was the last time we had a NEW feature that was customizable by emby admin? All i remember and i m using Emby for 12 years are forum threads with discussion with emby devs what feature will look and what it will do, and countless discussions....? We are doomed with what Luke saw last week somewhere on some apple bullshit... 2

How we went from 8-10 unique themes with dozens of customization options per-theme( WMC & emby add-on) to what we have now is my biggest WTF I have about emby. Edited January 13 by Smitty018210

Thats the only reason why I occasionally fire up Kodi, for the themes - well the Copacetic one anyway. 2
yaksplat 66 Posted January 14 Posted January 14 (edited) I'd like to see an expanded device limit. We have 15 devices in our house alone. I went to go purchase the expanded device limit increase, but I'm not paying a monthly fee for an change in an artificial limit. Proper Music Video handling. I don't even know what's going on here. It seems like it's in a non-working beta feature. A dedicated Raspberry pi music player. Theater on the Pi never worked well. Maybe an offshoot of the new linux installation. Better shuffling. You shouldn't be able to predict the next song up in a music playlist. Perhaps the random function just needs a better seed. Android app chromecast loses its session too easily or completely crashes. VirtualTV should be a native premier feature. It's a plugin that almost works really well, but then clunky at the same time due to working around the limitations in emby Edited January 14 by yaksplat
kikinjo 281 Posted January 14 Posted January 14 (edited) 20 hours ago, AJV_20 said: What did Luke say? I was trying to point that when we get a new feature it is basically not customizable at all , it was defined here on forum with some / many old forum members after some discussions, you can find many of those here just search for it. Great example was a month-two back where Luke "decided" that USER will have option to select what libraries will be searchable ?". Who the f*uck is user? User does not have anything to decide on my emby server, user is on it to watch and not to decide on system wide stuff and options. After few us bitching about it he reversed the feature thank god, but those are rare cases and that happens rarely. Problem is that emby is not being developed in customization fashion for emby admins, it is being developed (for example) like here is the new theme, it is blue, its very pretty because i saw it on apple tv and you cant change it because i and ebr love blue. yocker 1247 Posted January 14 Posted January 14 Being able to add user customizable configurations for plugins would be awesome and open for a world of different kinds plugins. Shouldn't be that impossible (depending on how the devs have made Emby) to make a separate little section in the settings where plugin developers could add user configurable options. If they are afraid of people making plugins that would get them thrown off the play stores they could limit the APIs instead of UI.
