pbathuk 20 Posted December 26, 2025 Posted December 26, 2025 Hi, We brought a new Lenovo Chromebook for my daughter for Christmas, today I setup emby for her, and found that the Android app regularly played no audio, but the web app worked fine. At first I thought it was a bug of no audio on the device, but playing the same file via VLC played fine. It seems that emby server is transcoding everything to ac3 format, and the emby client on the device is just not playing that properly. The web app transcoded to MP3, when playing on the same device. I even thought it might be that the device cannot play ac3, so downloaded a test file and played it through VLC, and it worked perfectly, even e-ac3 worked fine. I have tried a number of files, found 1 that would play ok. But cannot find any way to say - don't choose X codec, as I understand this should come from the client to report back to the server. I am on the latest stable version of the server, and the latest Android app (I have joined the beta for that.. I case there is inflight testing underway) Server logs + transcode logs attached. Weirdly there are loads of transcode logs, but I simply opened the file, and scrubbed to another part. So have attached all, incase they show anything. Client logs available if required / on request through DM (as see that mentioned on the way to submit issues page) ffmpeg-remux-ee0e79ed-1ac1-43cd-9210-e22f621470c5_1.txt ffmpeg-transcode-877979ef-71f0-4070-9c0b-e675ec82419c_1.txt ffmpeg-transcode-5bc6df2d-07e4-4806-af9c-9ab9d10333da_1.txt ffmpeg-remux-02d2c100-5c40-481e-a9bc-1897f2e5400b_1.txt ffmpeg-transcode-fbad7eb7-90e2-4c15-a3ad-09dd1a7fb05c_1.txt ffmpeg-transcode-8e4a375d-90d0-4357-a995-07af50280a79_1.txt ffmpeg-transcode-5cea106d-23bd-4653-95dc-7e002c31da1a_1.txt ffmpeg-transcode-e4439e59-92b2-41ea-9eea-b0dd6400e82e_1.txt ffmpeg-transcode-776e2209-57d3-4a66-8c81-72ccaedc5a83_1.txt embyserver-1.txt
Luke 42077 Posted February 5 Posted February 5 Hi, have you updated to Emby for Android 3.5.28? Has that helped?
pbathuk 20 Posted February 7 Author Posted February 7 Hi, I am actually on the latest beta version, 3.9 something (can find the extract version). Just tested and DTS does not work on any movie, aac does work though. I am happy to try different codecs, but it seems like the device is not capable and emby (server / client). Is there a way I can try to force transcoding of the audio to see if resolves it?

Just checked on Google store and it's 3.5.28.. I saw 3.9 and thought that was the version... It was the star rating, but my daughter was having me look at it all upside down as she was not happy about me "testing" on her device haha 1
Neminem 1518 Posted February 7 Posted February 7 (edited) I you Tdarr to add a AC3 5.1 and ACC 2.0 extra audio tracks to my files for better compatibility with devices lige this. THen I tell people to use those audio tracks, if the use those devices. Tdarr I also have a Old Lenovo Chromebook (2019 model) and that only support AAC 2.0 or MP3. Edited February 7 by Neminem
pbathuk 20 Posted Tuesday at 08:33 AM Author Posted Tuesday at 08:33 AM Sorry I missed the above, I will have a look when I get home and see if that helps patch things. Going to be honest though, I would hope the player, which correctly transcoded unsupported audio for most clients / web browser would report / share the right information. I would hope there was a way to set, on the server, that X client cannot support Y Z codecs (on top of ones it self reports), so forcing the transcoding. Would be a nice addition to the authorised client tab in the server menu
