I'd love to hear more info on this because it makes zero sense to me.  Direct play would cause more issues than transcoding when we are talking about video quality?   He has no issues when using plex so to me it doesn't sound like a network issue.  I understand if someone has poor internet quality transcoding might be required.  By definition transcoding reduces video quality so I'm scratching my head very curious.  I did also instruct him to increase the stream quality on the client too.  So its not like he had transcoding disabled and set the client to 1mpbs.

Disabling transcoding would cause problems if a remux or transcode is needed for the video to show, not for fixing judder. I bet that is what he meant.

I just installed the Emby for Android TV on my shield and it seems to have fixed the judder in some movies i had problems with.
Could still be a setting that i have forgotten that cause it in the standard app though.

@yockerI experienced same issues on the standard android app too. I have been testing that app for years now and it still sucks for high bitrate video.

The androidTV app does not have the same issues.   It's been silky smooth for 3 years now never had a single issue.  ShieldTV pro.
