noybman 9 Posted December 23, 2025 Posted December 23, 2025 So I have completely restarted my Emby server (just to be sure), and I noticed that the list I had BEFORE I restarted included "recent sessions" from users of the system. These sessions were no longer in use, but the transcoding tests app refused to proceed because it sees them "alive"???? (Presumably). Upon restarting, I get the screen seen below. The big difference is that these "operations" are real, they are connections from the devices/apps listed, to connect to the Emby port. At no point were these "doing anything" other than talking to the API or web sockets. No media was played. I have ran transcoding tests successfully in the past, but that past is well over a year ago. I have not changed anything!!!! I just wanted to test it again (before changing things!). Soooooooo..... See the picture below, and consider... if the Emby Server was literally rebooted minutes before this, and this is the result of trying to do transcoding tests.... and my Google Chrome connection to the server is being treated as an "active operation running" .... Then Transcoding Tests is broken?

noybman 9 Posted December 25, 2025 Author Posted December 25, 2025 I posted an example of what I saw (literally), as you see it in the picture. that is me: selecting the "Transcoding Tests" on the left hand side, and then clicking "Execute Test Plan" If I have to go get logs and post them so be it, but I'd like someone to just go try it and tell me it works for them??? Cause I haven't changed anything since I last set this up (as you see, it was 2024), and the sessions in the picture I shared are not actual sessions of anyone watching anything. When I look at the server today, it shows entries for every single session that has been established between yesterdays restart and time-now. There are only two active sessions going right now, but it shows over 20 in the list, plus the web browser (non-video) sessions.
noybman 9 Posted December 25, 2025 Author Posted December 25, 2025 Yes... I did create a new, much more simple basic session jsut now, and it has the same issues. The issue being, I cannot run a transcoding test, because Emby thinks it's busy doing something else, and it appears to be considering my very login via chrome to manage the server a sesson......
softworkz 5066 Posted December 26, 2025 Posted December 26, 2025 The TranscodingTestPlugin ensures clean and reproducible results by making sure that no other activities exist. It does so by querying Emby SDK Reference: IProcessManager, Emby SDK Reference: ITaskManager and Emby SDK Reference: ISessionManager for running processes and active sessions.
noybman 9 Posted December 27, 2025 Author Posted December 27, 2025 respectfully, how am I not communicating this effectively? I've shared the screenshot that shows it cannot process my request to do a transcoding test. In the first picture it shows 4 sessions. One is my TV, one is my Stereo, one is my browser that I am using to execute the transcoding test!!!!! and then Jellyseer...... but none of those sessions are playing any video. So I'd like to think, the server is not busy doing anything. Now.... since it lists my own admin session as one of the sessions that is apparently preventing me from running a transcoding test, I'm scratching my head wondering what has changed. I have the same TV, the same Stereo, still have Jellyseerr, and of course, a browser running an admin session. So it seems to me something has changed. Does trascoding test work for any of you? Is my confusion about the prompt that it cannot perform the transcoding test (due to other operations), not seem legit? The admin web session shouldn't exclude/prevent a transcoding test from being ran, seeing as though you need it to initiate the test!

Your own session is shown but not counted. The core point is this question: On 12/25/2025 at 5:37 AM, softworkz said: The question is whether there has been any change to the server in a way that it "remembers" user sessions across restarts? @Luke?

Luke 42077 Posted December 27, 2025 Posted December 27, 2025 Does the plugin log exactly which session it thinks is still active?
softworkz 5066 Posted December 27, 2025 Posted December 27, 2025 8 minutes ago, Luke said: Does the plugin log exactly which session it thinks is still active? Even better - it shows them on screen. (see screenshot in the OP)
noybman 9 Posted December 28, 2025 Author Posted December 28, 2025 Can ya'll test it? I've asked a few times.... is it broken for everyone? In my OP message, I mentioned that it had a BUNCH of sessions listed even though no one was using it. So, while it did complain, I did restart the server, tried the test again, and it still complained about active operations. However, those 4 listed in the photo, are all local, and "fresh"; meaning; I rebooted the emby service, and when the list came up, it only had those 4, not the 20+ that was there before the reboot. However, I can confirm that those 4 sessions are not actively "doing" any video, the TV is on, the stereo is on, it makes sense it would "reconnect", but I don't use either to play emby, (in fact I could "turn those off"). Jellyseerr does not play video, I've used it forever. Neither is my admin session. The message is apparenly misleading, because it listed those 4 sessions as its reason why it cannot do a transcoding test. If whay you say is right, that the admin session does not count, then how do I determine if any of those sessions are counted? Even the stale ones that are shown prior to a reboot of the Emby Server app, those go away. I did search for trasncoding test in the logs and didn't see anything helpful. I'll try again laster tonight.
nicoom 1 Posted February 9 Posted February 9 Hello everyone, I have been experiencing the same issue on a freshly set up server, which was odd. But I have noticed that all the connections were DLNA, so I have disabled all the DLNA settings and then restarted the server. After this, I was able to run the transcoding tests. Maybe this also fixes your issue? 1
