Wysocki 2 Posted December 22, 2025 Posted December 22, 2025 My Hisense Fire TV apps library shows two versions of Emby. One is titled "Emby for Fire TV" (about 6000 users) and the other is just "Emby" (about 200 users). What's the difference in these two versions and which one should I use?
GrimReaper 4739 Posted December 22, 2025 Posted December 22, 2025 You can still use either, though the latter is actively developed and recommended by the Dev team, going forward.

The emby app sucks.

My experience is pretty much the opposite. That is the TV app has real issues on some playbacks while the regular app plays them just fine. Of course I mostly care about playback experience and not about the interface being "pretty." Edited December 22, 2025 by Gilgamesh_48

I assure you the people complaining don't care about anything being pretty. We don't have basic playback working on the standard app and the devs confirmed this.

All my movies are under 3gb and most under 2. I notice that most playback issues result from high bitrates or other problems directly related to the nature or quality of the encode. All of my 4500+ movies play fine with the standard app (because it uses a better playback engine) but many do not play with the TV app. The devs may well have confirmed your issue and I just hope they do not break my playback fixing yours. It has happened before. Edited December 22, 2025 by Gilgamesh_48

You are the first I have seen say this. Also the numbers here speaks for themselves. People not on these forums 6000 to 200 prefer the embyTV app. Edited December 22, 2025 by embaaa NA

People not on these forums 6000 to 200 prefer the embyTV app. I am done with this fight and your numbers are meaningless as I do not prefer the TV app and for me and my playback expectations and for me I am the only one that matters. If I don't like in then I will not use it. Also I have no idea where your numbers com from but if it is some kind of on line poll then it is as meaningless as all other online polls. So I am outa here.
Wysocki 2 Posted December 23, 2025 Author Posted December 23, 2025 So, per my original question, I still don't know what the differences are. Can I install both to try them out? Do they share settings or cause some other conflict?

Lessaj 467 Posted December 23, 2025 Posted December 23, 2025 I would recommend using Emby for Android (or just Emby). It is actively being developed and recommended by the dev team as Grim said.
