kbeck 64 Posted December 15, 2025 Posted December 15, 2025 I'm adding this as an FYI in case someone else has the same problem. I generally use a a web browser to view Emby. Have had to occasionally use the Emby app. I have 2 servers in seperate locations but every few months bring the offsite server home to sync data files. While I have both servers running on the network the Emby app will not open. Sits at the splash screen. Sometimes opens to the Select Server screen. After selecting either it just sits. Only when I shutdown 1 or the other does it log in. Even then I have to go to Add/remove programs and delete the program cache. I'm guessing the ability to have 2 servers running does exist. But as long as I use a browser and connect by ip everything is fine.
Neminem 1518 Posted December 15, 2025 Posted December 15, 2025 It sound like both server are using same IP or Server ID. 1
Luke 42077 Posted December 15, 2025 Posted December 15, 2025 HI, are these two servers clones of each other?

Both servers have manually set IPs and names. 192.168.0.17 and 192.168.0.15. HTPC-815 and HTPC-118. Edited December 17, 2025 by kbeck Typo

No. Both were installed independent of each other about a year or 2 apart. I copy the Movie and TV files to drives. None of the Emby program files or data. I can get to either by browser with IP address. IP manually set. Names are somewhat similar HTPC-815 and HTPC-118. It's only the Emby app that causes any trouble and I don't use it much anyway. s long as I shut down 815 and clear the Program Data the app will connect first time. I will say that 815 WAS my primary and 118 the backup until a couple of months ago. I have not tried to login to the 815 backup with the app. I will try that and report.

Emby Windows v2.234.2.0 When the 2nd server (older) is on the network, the app connects to it automatically. Will not connect to the newer server until I shutdown Emby Server on the 2nd.

Manual install and data added over 6-8 years. 2nd server added as a backup to be kept offsite. Also a manual install but I do use a utility to mirror the Library drives (only). I did reverse the roles..... 1st (older server) I keep offsite and the newer 2nd server is now at home. I bring in the older server and drives every few months to sync drives and let it do updates. It's really not that big of a problem for me as I usually only have 1 in use. Have seen other topics with people having trouble with the app hanging in the splash screen.
TMCsw 247 Posted January 5 Posted January 5 I'm not sure where this file is on Windows, but stop Emby, then delete or rename "device.txt" to "device.old" and restart Emby. ... Note: this may screw up the clients' saved logins.
Luke 42077 Posted January 5 Posted January 5 It’s under the server data folder: Emby Server Data Folder and yes all clients will have to reconnect all over again.
