How does "Max transcoding resolution" work?

Hi,

I just discovered the newish setting "Max transcoding resolution" and I am confused about how it is supposed to work. Does the limit apply to the source or the target resolution?

In any case, in my tests the setting appears to be completely ignored. If I set the limit to 1080p the server still transcodes 4K->1080p, but also 4K->4K (confirmed via dashboard and playback stats).

Did I misunderstand the setting?

That would be: Direct Play (right?) = no transcoding.

That setting is only in effect when a transcode is triggered.

When transcoding is triggered, the output will be limited to 1080p in your case.

No, it's transcoding from a higher to a lower bitrate, both in 4K.

It's a limit on the resolution of the transcoding done on the server.
So set it at 1080p and any transcode will be at a maximum of 1080p.

As you can see here it is being limited to 10 mbps even though i set it to 40 in the player.
